John McGuinness won his 21st Isle of Man TT race with victory in Wednesday morning’s TT Zero. "Having qualified fastest for the race on electric bikes the Morecambe Missile turned his excellent pace into a race win with a lap record of 117.366mph on the Mugen Shinden bike." http://www.iomtt.com/News/2014/June/04/TT-Zero-Result.aspx This is a race for battery powered motorbikes. These guys are breaking the IOM TT speed record year on year for such bikes in the category. This year for the first time there will be a race category on the I of Man where battery powered e bikes will race against their petrol driven counterparts. We may eventually see the transition soon as there is news of an e bike coming out in time for next year that will have a top speed of 200mph. Rumour control has it that due to popular demand in Asia, there may well be a standalone major event for e bikes in Malaysia in the next 12 months. The battery powered era is upon us.
Electric bike to take on petrol power in (same) race "An electric motorcycle is to take on petrol-powered ones in the same race in the Southern 100. It will be the first time ever that an electric bike has competed against traditional internal combustion engine motorcycles at a pure road race." http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle...ike-to-take-on-petrol-power-in-race-1-6683316
