Yesterday I was convinced by my daughter to go to the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay.
I usually dread places like zoos and things, because there seems to be only a lot of talk about animal welfare in such places, but not much action.

Well, I wasn't disappointed at all.
My worst fears were soon realized within the first couple of enclosures, or better known as cages..

The animal, were just dormant and bored looking, distressing to see really.
The only ones to get a little bit of action were the sealions, some birds of pray, penguins and chimps....
I suppose it is because they are somewhat more popular with kids and so they make good shows, despite the weather.

Lot of talk about breding programmes with other zoos, and re-introduction into the wild for some of them, but it ain't going to happen anytime soon, I reckon.
They are too self absorbed in their own importance.
For me, on the whole, the experience was , yet again, upsetting.
The only notable thing was the filter coffe in the Cafe', which for a catering outlet of this sort, was really outstanding, even if slightly overpriced.

Not been to a zoo since I was a child...

They were originally set up purely for entertainment and in recent times we have been given the mantra of "conservation"... I guess I would not like to see bored and caged animals either, like the poor monkey I saw in barili, Cebu.
