Sectarian not racist in this context - if indeed it is being applied to parts of Ireland which are in the UK.
That story highlights only too well how ridiculous things have become in this country, the people who are offended by the Union Jack might consider returning to their country of origin as I'm sure no British person would be offended by the sight of his countrys flag. I find it really annoying to read stories like this, I really do.
People should be allowed to wear what they want wherever they want, we have some crazy laws in the UK as you will see. The UK has taken Political Correctness (PC) to a crazy level I'm afraid.
I got asked to stop wearing my union jack swimshorts too http://www.amazon.co.uk/Borat-Manki..._UL200_SR160,200_&refRID=0KKTAACAQEEVJ0W0RJAF
I think you'll find that those who tend to complain about the British flag on the mainland UK are actually not foreign. They are scared of how it would seem to others who are foreign, , which is jumping to conclusions in my opinion, or connect the flag to a negative jingoistic view. I don't think many foreigners are anti the British flag at all! In Norn Iron, it can give offence based upon the context and the one-upmanship behind it at a local level (same with the tricolour) and that's a shame but a different story that should be respected even if not agreed with IMO. But it's generally a problem some white english have with their own culture. See St George's Day for another example.
Although Barnsley council tweeted that they have no record of the incident and nobody from the council would confront someone on what they are wearing. Most of the time, any story with the words 'political correctness gone bad' in it is a load of old balony. If you want the wear union jack trousers you wear them. Don't fall for all this nonsense.
Does that include burkas? Away from the world of newspapers and online links, this stuff is pretty much non existent. We don't have laws about what you can wear. As long as you wear SOMETHING!!
The pub landlord only suspects they were council officials and the council has no record, hum!Im not a racist says he who says he was? I agree that away from the papers this sort of stuff is pretty much non existent although I am sure in every country in the world there is pockets of racial discord The burka poses another set of many questions ie security in banks and building societies shops schools and many public places! In banks petrol stations etc you will see please remove your motorcycle helmet signs for security reasons if these establishments stuck up a please remove your burka I am sure it would produce a torrent of news comments. Its a difficult one for sure.
Looking at the photo, it could have been a member of the fashion police. Or maybe it was a patriotic person who was offended that his jacket was completely filthy and showed disrespect to the flag. It just seems that if you're short of a few bob you can go to the newspapers, tell them that 'pc has gawn completely maaaad', pocket the cash and watch yourself go viral. I reckon there's a few viruses on that scruffy urchin's jacket as it is!!
I'm against people wearing burkas in the UK, I have no problem with it being worn in Muslim countries where it belongs.
