of the 11 ASEAN nationalities, some are closer together than others, and Thais and Lao are probably the two closest together of them all. Indonesians and Malayans, Filipinos and Malayans are also close.

Burmese are probably the most distinctive. They can tend to have darker complexions, like Indians. But even so you might easily mistake a Burmese with a Filipino if they are in a crowd on the London Tube.

You only notice these quirks of meaning when you know a bit of language Ive experienced this in Portugal in fact to this day I have to think carefully befor using the word for post office so as not to offend although even that depends to some extent on where you are geographically as in the north its more common to use colourful language in public

BOTH of them were mis-identified as Thai, BY THAIS, all the time. It got really tedious to the point where I actually got a t-shirt printed in Thai script, for the laugh.

I disagree with a lot that you say but I generally support your right to say it. However, I think it's ridiculous that you have to highlight what you see as bad behaviour by actually behaving worse than who is offending you by basically seeing life different than yourself. You quickly made up your mind that you couldn't coexist with that person and everything stems from there. So you flounce in and out.
