My last Hoover washing machine was bought at the end of 1999 it died in 2013 original cost was just over £300, I then for various reasons had to use a laundrette, just bought a new Hoover machine a week ago for less than £300 I suspect it will not last so long, but god it is great having my own machine again. My old one I packed it to the gunnels every time and it always worked, my Zanussi tumble dryer was bought at the same time in 1999 and it is still going strong (about £200 at the time) as is Bosch fridge and separate Bosch Freezer also purchased back then both just over £300 in 1999. It is sadly true that white goods are no longer built to last, that was true even back in 1999 I did not expect the items I bought to last so long but luckily they have, apparently the approximate life of the average washing machine is about 7 years now, in the late 1970's my family got over twenty years out of an old Hoover washing machine, yes there is family brand loyalty re washing machines showing here
I bought a saisho microwave oven from Dixon's in 1987. Still got the receipt somewhere. Cost £169 even then. Used every day. Never been touched by an engineer. Never given a moment of trouble. Only problem it's just too big..Need a smaller one.
