I completely agree with your thinking. I was shocked when I found out about the CFO. We used an agent and I was peed off that they hadn’t mentioned it but in their defence they pointed out that their job was to get the visa. But as one or two have mentioned the CFO are a different entity and a law unto themselves and carry out independent checks.

My wife found out from 3 others who she has met at the language test centre. When she told me I thought she was talking nonsense. Then I checked it on a forum and realised she was right.

So how would the cfo know any thing about me ? Or where we would be living? I’m kinda intersected in this..

Well that’s the catch. A lot they dont so they cannot actually verify some of it. That’s where the lying bit comes in. But some of course they can check by asking her for certain documents as Mattecube mentioned.

My wife is not a good liar so she called me on a point of questioning. Well a call backed up with a text.

So what documents would you say I should ask my wife to take with her?

Off the top of my head (am sure one or two will help out here) marriage cert, proof of divorce is another popular one. However now that I think of it she had all those docs as they were submitted in Manila. So it was just a question of picking out the salient ones, but have just realised all your docs were submitted over here in U.K.

Have you looked through the CFO thread?

Make every assumption that the CFO process will be tailored to make your life awkward. Make sure you wife goes with everything possible. You'd assume they will accept a marriage certificate as sufficient proof, but give yourself a sufficient window to correct things if they decide to pull the rug from under your feet.

With regards to flying out of the Philippines, the departure taxes (from MNL) are included in the ticket if it has been purchased locally. If you buy the ticket online from KLM's website, it will default to local currency (or USD) and taxes for Filipino citizens most likely included.

If you were to buy from a website such as expedia.co.uk, it will be priced in GBP and it will be fine for non-Filipinos, but your wife will have to visit the travel tax counter after checking in to pay her taxes.

Ahh great like you said all the documents are here in the uk....

I’m reading through the that forum now.

Do you think they would accept photos from her phone of me and my wife or would they need in the form of paper..

What a pile wank this is.. just when I thought I could relax haha.

Look before we run away with the CFO being some crazy exercise in keeping people in the country it isnt, again as I mentioned earlier its a way of preventing sham arranged marriages.
My wife found it all fairly relaxed but then she would as we are in a genuine relationship I am sure as @court95 has said his wife knows everything about him so it will be fine. Take her passport, marriage certificate a few pictures of you together it will be fine.Just make sure she is comfortable with basic info on you.
Your in a genuine relationship these people know how to suss out the wrong uns

I understand there a reason I just don’t see it’s needed since we’ve allready been under the microscope from our own government for the spouse visa.

But I’m guessing they don’t just deal with spouse visa so I can understand.

I’ve lived and worked in the phils for just short of 2 years and I love but I still don’t get it when it comes to government.. haha

As Mattecube says, what the CFO tries to achieve is sound enough, but I have read a few horror stories about them (on forums) and they are capable of causing delay if our wives and fiancées are unprepared so it’s best to go forarmed.

Many sail through their seminars. But some don’t and if you want to avoid having to go back for a further visit then best to get it right first time. In my wife’s case at least 2 of her group of 4 had to go back for a second visit to provide info they did not have with them first time around. All four of them had genuine relationships and reasons for settlement in the UK.

Have a look at posts 528 through to 533 in this thread, for example:

ive picked up that the CFO in Manila is easier than that at Cebu. my fiancee attended at Manila--and found it very straightforward.

So just talking to my wife regarding the cfo she’s already gotten the cfo certificate when she got married and attend the exact meeting everyone has detailed here and they told her once she has the visa just go back to the Center and get the sticker.

How much are we looking at if I pay for it here in £ ? What’s the amount tax she would pay?

Philippine Travel Tax is Php1620 and she'll have to pay the Terminal Fee of Php750; together that's about £34.

So about the same it would cost with transaction rates to transfer money.
