Yes. I know - Apple. Don’t some of us love to hate them. However according to rumour the Apple Watch 7 is likely to have a blood glucose monitor built in. “Measuring blood glucose levels, also known as blood sugar levels, is vital to managing conditions such as diabetes. Normally, measuring blood glucose requires testing a drop of blood in a blood sugar meter or using an implanted continuous glucose monitor (CGM). The ability to observe any major increases or decreases in blood glucose may raise awareness of a potential health condition or simply help to improve a user's diet.” Read More below: https://www.macrumors.com/2021/01/25/apple-watch-series-7-blood-glucose-monitoring/ How very useful.
https://9to5mac.com/2021/01/25/apple-watch-blood-sugar-measurement/ For those averse to Apple, evidently Samsung are also onto this technology. “Apple and Samsung have managed to introduce ECG capabilities in both the Apple Watch Series 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Of course, both of these companies faced government approval before the features could be implemented since these are medical-tier technologies. We expect these companies to face the same kind of government approval process if and when blood glucose monitoring arrives to mass-consumer smartwatches.” These devices will revolutionise what we eat.
I know. But...this device or any other made by any other smart watch manufacturer will be a complete and utter game changer. It will stop the debate about what is or isn’t good for us and will empower us all with the ability to learn about and isolate those foods that make us chronically ill.
Samsung’s version for those that are Apple averse. https://9to5google.com/2021/01/25/samsung-smartwatch-blood-sugar-report/ “On the Android side of things, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup is perhaps the most advanced smartwatch available. With its next generation, it looks like Samsung is going to expand its health efforts on smartwatches to include blood sugar tracking.” “Samsung Electronics has decided to apply a technology to its new smart watch “Galaxy Watch 4 (tentative),” which is set to be introduced this second half, so that the watch is able to monitor one’s blood glucose level. The technology utilizes an optical sensor and detects blood glucose level without having to draw blood and it is expected to make a great contribution in assisting those with diabetes and normal people with managing their health.” Of course there will still be people who count steps and calories but that will be a thing of the past for many who instead will watch what they eat. There is a food revolution on the way.
I'm Samsung averse too People have been working on non invasive glucose monitoring since as far back as 1975. This chap won an award the other year, not commercialised yet but promising Non-invasive glucose monitor EasyGlucose takes home Microsoft’s Imagine Cup and $100K | TechCrunch
No doubt other manufacturers will enter the fray. Often these technology’s take their time surfacing.
