We have very little in the way of Filipino restaurants here (even though we have a Filipino shop just a few minutes from where we live and a couple of others a short drive away).

We do have a restaurant owned by a Filipina called New Manila Restaurant but it does Thai food only. And thats it. So today we noticed that under new management a cafe near us has re opened and the display board outside specified Filipino breakfasts amongst its menu.

So Mrs Ash and I are callng in at lunch time tomorrow for an all day Filipino breakfast. Should be good.

I hate the stuff. But my wife used to buy it a lot. She seems to have weaned herself off of it though, these days.

The New Manila Restaurant started of doing Filipino food every sunday but the owner said there were few customers so she has since stuck to Thai food. However, I did enjoy the Filipino breakfasts so will try one of the local versions today.

A local Filipina here bakes pandesal in semincommercial quantities, from home. My wife bought some. A huge tray full. I did enjoy it but had to restrict the amount as I have to keep my blood sugar levels down.

Rice and fried eggs for me. The wife's alternative to pandesal and coffee is brioche and coffee.

Yes. Mrs Ash buys a pack of brioche with regularity and the toddler has brioche too. In fact she used to call it "pandesal" for a while.

Yep it tastes quite nice for sweetened bread, almost like a loaf of croissant

spam is best cut thick--dipped in batter--then deep fried. spam fritters--classic american haute cuisine.

My missus has moved over to the dark side and demands sausage, egg, bacon, black pudding, toast and scrambled eggs of a weekend.

She does like the odd tin of spam though!

Over Christmas we stayed in the excellent Canlaon Guest House in, of course, Canlaon, and ate the breakfast that went with the room,
Coffee, rice and fried egg/ham /longganisa/fried fish/dried fish.

Kaye weaned me onto the dried fish which I now enjoy.

Bit what I really like is coffee and a fresh mango.
