I am undoubtedly as well travelled as yourself. No difference there. Should one of those bullets head your way and if you survive then don't moan about it. And if you have any relatives out there (other than the children you have spawned in every port) then don't moan if they are caught in any crossfire. Just saying
I don't know if this counts, but my sister in law is finding life a good deal less agreeable, because she lives in an inner suburb of the town of Molave, pop. c. 50,000, in Zamboanga del Sur, about a hundred miles as the crow flies from Marawi, and many of her neighbours are Muslim. This hasn't been an issue, but the destruction of Marawi has meant that most of her Muslim neighbours have had to take in relatives fleeing Marawi, so there is now serious overcrowding and the tensions that flow from that. Plus of course the Police "enforcing the Curfew" under Martial Law.
Wikipedia - Battle of Marawi http://www.british-filipino.com/ind...battle-maute-terrorists-in-marawi-city.14486/ Sorry to hear that your sister in law is finding life tough due to the refugees from the battle zone. Do you think that Duterte is correct to take a strong stance against the ISIL/ISIS backed militant Jihadist terrorists, or should he have denied that there was a problem, and looked the other way?
. Well, since you ask... 1. The Wikipedia article is hilariously wrong; there is no connection between the Maute Group and the Abu Sayyaf, as anyone with any knowledge of Mindanao can tell you. They don't even speak the same language. The Abu Sayyaf are Tausugs and the Maute Group are Maranaos. 2. The fighting in Marawi has nothing to do with Duterte; an AFP unit was ambushed. Duterte's contribution amounts to the imposition of martial law, against the advice of the AFP, across the whole of Mindanao, enforced by the ever popular PNP, the murder by cops in Aurora last week of an AFP soldier travelling home on leave, and a couple of photo opportunities for the Great Man. That one is as I hope you know the good President's face Photoshopped onto the body of a French Chasseur Alpin. This one shows the real Teenage Mutant Ninja Duturtle: You can tell this one is real because the Chinese "minder", Bong Go, is in his usual position within inches of Fentanylla. I have no criticism to make of the AFP. They may be the only organisation within the Government who would turn over a stash of many millions of pesos in bundles of thousand peso notes rather than helping themselves. Pity that Duterte's promised pay rise for them turned out to be as good as his other promises.
I don't have any experience of the situation in the South, but my wife's friends in Bulacan, who she keeps in touch with, are losing their faith in Duterte. They are currently afraid to let their kids out after dark and stay in their houses because of the fear that they will make enemies and hence be denounced and shot as drug users. One day last week, there were 34 killed in Bulacan in one day. I never noticed a drugs problem in the area - but these women have said that they don't like the way the place feels now..
"No connection"??What planet do you live on? Isnilon Hapilon is the designated leader of both ISIS and Abu Sayyaf in the R.P. ... His partners ,Omar and Abdullah Maute BOTH pledged allegiance to ISIS and Abu Sayyaf and they planned the Marawi attack together.. They flew the ISIS black flag at the town hall for crying out loud!! They all share a common language..Arabic! So what are you trying to say again??
The poll that really matters to Filipino`s.. The Social Weather Station (SWS) on Tuesday has classified as "very good" the latest public satisfaction ratings of the national government under President Rodrigo Duterte, with helping the poor and protecting human rights receiving highest scores from respondents. The results of the June 23-26 survey first published by the Business World showed that 75% of 1,200 respondents are satisfied with the national government, 13% were undecided and only 11% were dissatisfied. This generated a net satisfaction rating of +64. Although the second quarter survey is down by two points than the result in March, SWS said the Duterte administration has the highest satisfaction ratings in four quarters compared to the four-quarter average scores of the last four presidents. http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/08/29/17/duterte-govt-keeps-very-good-satisfaction-rating-sws
Ferdinand Marcos called the snap election that led to his downfall because an SWS survey showed a high level of satisfaction with his Presidency. After he had called the election the numbers moved against him.
You claim to be a new member and in the time since you joined (8th July 2017), Methersgate has barely posted here let alone enjoined a conversation with you. So how do you know his real name is Andrew? Or what his opinions are? Ah yes, of course. You're otherwise known as the permanently banned member "JohnAsh" and you've found a VPN to disguise your real location on that piece of rock in the Irish Sea. But "Bowler" isn't your only nom de plume is it?
Why does it need so many alternicks?? So it can agree with it`s self using a couple of sock puppets or what? Tut tut. Sad little creature.
Very different times and situations... I lived in Manila during and after the election and was lucky enough to witness the peoples power revolution.. After the murder of Ninoy Aquino live on T.V, it was plain to see that the general population were not happy. Far from it until his trip to Hawaii. Nothing like now at all. Not only that..Marcos owned and controlled all media companies etc via his cronies.. If any party has a grip on the media these days it`s DU30`s opposition I`d say!
Oh, my........... We are getting repetitive............... I lost count on how many times we discussed Duterte and expressed our opinions on what he is doing... Now a poll............??? To rehash old stuff.. Somebody needs to get a life
