my mrs last box was like an immovable object--like a cubic metre of wet concrete. the pooten agent came with a flat wooden platform on 4 castors--he got the box on--somehow.
i cant see the point of it all. surely most of what is sent is cheaper in the philippines. then add the freight cost. easier and more secure just to transfer some more money
If I don't send my stuff... I'll only have to buy it all again there... IF it's available and affordable. Simple economics, when you add up the REPLACEMENT value of the contents. Then there's all the photo, books, vinyl records , etc. £90 to send 200 albums ... some of which are irreplaceable... plus other stuff in that box ? No bags of candy or cheap pasalubongs. I can buy those there in the Phils.
Send power tools if needed over there, only Chinese crap or expensive Japenese/ Korean power tools. Cheaper in the UK in my opinion.
Agree on that. I've already taken most of my power tools there. My other tools are in these boxes. Also in one of my boxes is a 'workmate' portable workbench. So useful, but I've yet to see one there. Lots of 'fittings' and 'fixings' too. Small, but handy, and many difficult to source in the Phils.

But why would I spend another 60 to 80 quid, when I already have one... which only takes up a quarter of the space in a £90 box ?
You would if you lived where we live... I must have bought 20 can openers since I've been here ranging from 50 to 500+Peso... everything is like it - Chinese rubbish
Problem is ... though some of the bigger hardware places may have stock... getting the staff to understand what the hell you're after, and then where it is, can be a major headache... nevermind the inferior quality . It's easier just to take some of my more commonly-needed fittings (brackets and suchlike) with me.
Yeah, I believe you. I didn’t occur to me that you would have a problem with stuff like that. I started buying hardware stuff via Amazon this last year. Shame you cannot do that over there.
Never ask for wall-plugs they shrug their shoulders. Called "torque" at least in Negros it is. Took me 2 years to learn that, Doh
Don't have too many problems finding most tools and hardware stuff here. We have Ace Hardware which are not bad but little expensive, then we have Citi Hardware and Wilcon which are both good. Having said that I did ship all my tools here and a lot of fasteners and fixings in BB boxes.
Next task is to ship my 1939 Ariel Sq4 motorcycle in BB boxes, but thats a whole new story..............
My friend shipped his Kawasaki 1000 to the Phils from Hong Kong ... split among 2 or 3 balikbayan boxes. lol Needless to say... paperwork to get it road 'legal' cost extra.
Actually Graham, I'm not too fussed about about getting it registered to use it on the road. At almost 80 years old, its not really suitable for the traffic conditions here. I will be happy enough to rebuild it and use it to potter around on the quiet roads in our subdivision.
