If you had bothered to read and ponder on my posts, you would be more aware of my feelings on the subject.
I see. So I have been sworn at. I have been threatened. I have been accused of being a troll. I have 3 times been called dumb. Just because I disagree with a core assertion that it's okay to shoot people indiscriminately. That okay by you? It seems to be.
I wouldn't take it to heart. This is only an internet forum. I don't understand why this conversation is taking a turn in this direction, but it surely is going to generate heat and not light. I suggest that we all move on and calm down.
I agree. My wife was born in Mindanao but her parents moved there from Negros. They are Liberals. They do not support President Duterte, and neither do I. AFP are by far the most important news agency in the Philippines, and you will find that the Filipino newspapers very often run stories from them. A little poking around on the Internet will usually lead to a live stream of President Duterte's Press Conferences; one can hear his statements straight from the horse's mouth.
Thanks. There only can be heat if there are two opposing and polarised sides. Which there has been. The thread demonstrates a long history of tenacity from the pro duterte camp, and there has been heat all the way, and well before I joined in. Heat is okay, but it can get out of hand and this was the case last night when threats etc etc were resorted to. None from me you may have noticed. I hope we can all move on and coexist without going over the top and blowing a gasket.
You may oppose the methods being employed but surely not the end result? I do support Duterte, having lived in his city for the last six years, although I am not altogether comfortable with the increasing amount of vigilantism. Criminals and suspected offenders should really be tackled by the Police and the Courts but I do understand the frustrations being felt "on the ground". The whole country will benefit if corruption and drugs stop being Big Problems - including the Liberals! That may have been true in the past. However in the instance mentioned above, AFP is stretching credibility a bit too far by being the only organisation to hear particular remarks made in public and on a day when Duterte would have been surrounded by many, many journalists. Of the Philippine news media, it seems that only ABS-CBN used AFP's account (ABS-CBN is a major consumer of AFP material), GMA didn't, SunStar didn't and nor did anyone else that I could find. Duterte may well have made some very robust statements when he was addressing those 500 or so Manila slum dwellers but he would have made them in Tagalog; the AFP correspondent may have decided to embellish the translation to "sell" the story.
The way I see it, if you are stupid enough to sell illegal drugs in a country where the president has all ready stated they will kill drug dealers, you deserve it. Shocking?
I don't oppose a reduction in crime. But the end doesn't justify the means if that means involves stepping outside legal process. One could vastly reduce crime in a nation by killing all known criminals and any alleged ones at the risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. After viewing the video below, I am glad about that. Disgusting. There is no room in a civilized society for such goings on. We don't know the full story behind how and why anyone came to be in the position of dealing drugs. It's quite possible that some unfortunate poor people could be forced into it by another criminal, perhaps if they owed money, with the threat of harm to their family if they didn't comply. If I was a criminal, that's what I would do, and put others in the firing line.
The method is questionable. As far as I can gather, the vast majority of people were killed while trying to run away from the assailants and not giving an armed resistance. The end result is predictable if it continues unabated. My biggest fear is the loss of innocent lives.
I agree, however what other options are available? When i here forum members talk about legal process, they obviously don"t know much about the system here in the Philippines.
