I thought it needs to be valid when applying the visa like within 6 months?

I didnt say that, let me re phrase when you have the TB test you will (if clear) get a six month certificate to add to your application, you may not for what ever reason not submit your application for a month after the TB test but because you have a certificate that was issued within 6 months of the application date this is fine.
The UKGOV can add to this!

you go for TB say 1.02.17 and pass the certificate is valid for 6 months
visa application can be for example 1.02.17 you will at this point only have 5 months left on the certificate this is fine it was issued within 6 months prior to your application its as simple as that!

when my wife took her son to VFS manila--for his biometrics---they kept his passport and printed off vaf4 application-----but was told to send his TB certificate--and other stuff--to sheffield. which we now have done...in fact--just had it all returned with the standard letter confirming UKVI have scanned it all.

so we now have confirmation that ukvi have received--

    all my sponsorship documents
    the sons online application
the sons documents brought back with his mum from the philippines.

now just got to wait for the next missive from ukvi to say they havent received our stuff.

i typed up a letter for the boys father to copy in his own fair handwriting--and sign--giving his consent to the boy coming over to join his mum. the boy hasnt lived with his dad for some year--currently cared for by an aunty. the handwritten letter--and the typed version--were included in the lastest bundle.

does any one know what sort of investigation ukvi carry out into the parental connection ?

    Yes, very recently.

You will need to prepare a Special Power of Attorney in favour of your mother and this will need to be signed by you at the Philippine Embassy in London who will also need to "Red Ribbon" it. Make several copies (and you retain one) and send them with the original via DHL/FedEx to your mother. You basically need to give her formal authority to act in your place as far as making arrangements for your son's Visa application and travel to this country. This will include dealing with the CFO and DSWD who need to grant permission for your son to travel out of the country.

Best of luck to all waiting their documentation from Manila / Sheffield.

I work in central government (diff department so no hate mail! :)) and the changes in the past year seems poorly planned and shockingly executed.

There will be a service level agreement between the Home Office and VFS - I wonder if anyone is monitoring standards?

Similarly, the Sheffield office will have key performance indicators against which it can be assessed.

Wow we missed all that bit! we did a simple email authorising Kate,s sister who is over 21 to accompany her and counter sign anything that needed a signature, I guess it was helped by the fact mother and daughter travelled together at the time of departure.

model railways are more my thing. but i cant imagine the lad being interested in that. its all computer games these days

when we ( me ) filled out the online form--i ticked the box at the top front page which says "applying for someone else " we then carried on as if his mum was filling it up. i am the sponsor--it asks--twice--what is our relationship ? first section i put "other" later i ticked stepfather as this option wasnt available in the previous list.

easiest is if you start an online application --to get the hang of it. you can cancel it anytime.

yeah--i got a bit twitchy reading @Markham 's post. but his mum signed the forms--and went over to philis to take him to VFS for his biometrics.

time will tell. my instinct tells me we will be led a long and merry dance about this.

My wife is a member of a Forum in Phils (similar to British Filipino) she has been told of others in same situation. We decided to send all our Docs (applicant and sponsor) direct to Sheffield from here in UK. So far no problems they have acknowledged receipt of the Docs.
Good Luck Bigmac... with all the help you give here you deserve a positive outcome!
