Hello. I need to ask about the goods that i will be bringing in the UK. If I bring "gourmet tuyo" and spices from the Philippines do I need to declare it in UK customs? I only have 3kgs of gourmet tuyo and 500 grams of spices and also cigarettes. Ive read this in the site. What does this mean Declaring goods to customs You must tell customs (known as ‘declaring’) on arrival in the UK if you have goods: over your duty-free allowance that are banned or restricted that you plan to sell Use the red channel at customs if you have something to declare. If there’s no red channel, use the red-point phone to declare goods to customs.
The tuyo is bottle sealed same as the spices. But the spices are homemade while the tuyo is from the manufacturer and properly sealed. Each bottle of tuyo is 300gms and ill be bringing 7 bottles. Would it be okay? 2 reams of Cigarettes
Thanks! Does this means im good without decalring this in the customs? Sorry i really need to double check
No. You're permitted to import up to 200 cigarettes - that's one ream and you will have to pay Duty and VAT on the second one. This is calculated as follows: Duty: 16.5% of the retail price plus £4.34 on a packet of 20 and VAT is charged at 20%. With the average retail price of a packet of 20 cigarettes being around £11.00 and there being 10 packs in a ream, the Duty will be £11 x 16.5% + £4.34 x 10 = £61.60 and VAT is a further £12.32 so you'll need to pay a total of £73.92 to import that second ream. If you do not declare your extra ream and Customs finds it, you will be charged Duty and VAT on all your dutiable items (meaning you'll pay a total of £147.84 for the cigarettes).
According to the OP, the spices are 'homemade' and could be suspected of being comprised of illegal substances and therefore prone to being seized - and the OP arrested. Oops!
There are shops where you can order stuff here in the uk. I’ve even seen someone post in fb that they are having bagoong with green mangoes and one has dried squid. What type of spice is that anyway? It might be widely available here - i mean pinas is not a country of spices like india.
My boyfriend actually requested it because the taste is totally different from the one he bought from global. And as for the gourmet tuyo ive read its okay to bring as long as it wont exceed 20kilos.
Thank you @Mattecube. I think im good with the gourmet tuyo bringing it over to UK. Ive read fish are allowed either cooked, dried or fresh as long as you wont go over 20kilos.
Dried fish seems to be very light presumably owing to the fact that it is dried. So presumably a couple of kilo of dried fish is a lot? It all smells the same to me but the stuff my partner brings back is called Danggit which she says is a speciality product from Bantayan. Not sure you can get that here in UK? There seems to be different “grades” of the stuff? I very much like the dried mangoes from Cebu. Some of the Trip Advisor reviews here are quite interesting: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowU...lic_Market-Cebu_City_Cebu_Island_Visayas.html
Its very difficult to remove the smell of cooked dried fish in the house. I cooked a few weeks ago on a monday night and my husband was away for 3 nights for business. I have kept the windows open, lit candles, hoovered the carpet (with those powedered stuff), and washed the entire kitchen. Then the first thing my husband asked when he came home was ‘what did you cook when i was away? Something smells!’ Grr mission failed.
I usually open the exhaust fan and window or sometimes even the kitchen door and then close the door connecting the living room. It doesnt smell when the living room door is close.
