Finally received letter from UKVI confirming the additional leave to remain has been granted, took 10 weeks and still waiting for BRP, but relieved.

It took a little longer as we both managed to overlook a page on the application regarding dependants, but thankfully they wrote to us asking us to complete the necessary info, rather than just refuse. They then proceeded to request information we'd already provided as well as some extra bits I don't recall being stated in the application.

Verdict: took longer than hoped and maybe cost the Mrs a better paid job, but at least they're open to requesting additional information, even when the applicant has made a mistake!

So she's stuck with me for another 30 months and then the joys of applying for ILTR!

Good news, enjoy the next 30 months of visa free bliss :)

I'm guessing that the UKVI will go out of their way and contact you if they require further information when applying for FLR, not like the initial application, easier to turn someone down who isn't already in the UK.

a wait (!) off your mind.

i wonder what will happen if the following scenario occurred:

man sponsors his fiancee--she comes over--they get married--and get the first FLR. in the following 30 months they have 2 kids. he also loses his job...so he cant meet the financial criteria for her 2nd flr sponsorship. does the wife get chucked out--?---leaving him to bring up 2 little kids on his own?

I think at worst the UKVI would put the applicant on the ten year route, then the applicant could return to the five year route if their circumstances change, I think I read that somewhere.

Oh, by the way bigmac I believe your inventor died today, he was 98 so he obviously didn't eat too much of his invention :)

After the second FLR(M) you then apply for the ILR, you can apply 28 days before the FLR expires, and yes you need to have completed the "Life in the UK" test before applying for ILR.
