Hi all, I have a rather strange situation that I am looking for advice on as nothing I can see on the beloved Google has helped. I married a Filipino in Singapore moved to Brunei then UK then back to Singapore where we separated and she returned to the Philippines with our son that was born after we married ( this was over 2 and half years ago now) , in that time I have met a great girl here in the Philippines and we to have had a child together. ( currently we are living together in Phil) Now my problem is I don't know where or how I can get divorced, ( I'm still on very good terms with the ex wife, and have shared custody of my son. Although I am here in Manila at the moment work is taking me to Thailand ( will be taking the missus and kids however this is another thread on another forum as visas will be a problem ) Am I goosed.? Is there no chance for me to divorce anywhere? Thanks in advance for any help / guidance
You married in Singapore? You can perhaps get divorced in Singapore. http://singaporelegaladvice.com/can-foreigners-divorce-in-singapore/ You MAY also be able to get divorced in the UK since you were resident there as a married couple. This is the firm that handled my divorce from my Filipina ex wife; they specialise in expatriates and may be able to help: http://www.terry.co.uk/
Hi, Thanks for the link, unfortunately Singapore is not an option as I don't have ties with singapore any more, and the UK we were only there for 50 months between my jobs, she was just on a visit visa, ( she had a two year one)
I'd drop David Terry a line anyway - he can be helpful. This link is to his page for non-UK resident expats. You almost certainly are still "domiciled" in the UK although you are not "resident" in the UK// http://www.terry.co.uk/divorce8.html Hong Kong? https://hongkong.geoexpat.com/articles/hong-kong-basics/guide-to-divorce-in-hong-kong
I'm in Manila, now, and next stop is Thailand, where it can't get divorced unless the marriage took place their. , maybe need to see if I can find a way around it in the UK
Just one thong. Do your wife a favour and divorce her, she will then be able to get that registered in Philippines and be able to remarry. If she divorces you, then it cannot under present Philippines law be registered, thus she remains married as far as Philippines is concerned. I am open to correction on this, but I believe I am right.
