It would be great to see two single people getting together from their time on our forum I can't remember this happening before over many years I forget how many posts they need to make before being able to private message each (pm) other?
I repeat again this is not a dating site. There are strict Philippine laws against the running of dating sites where the intention is to link Philippine citizens with foreigners. The penalties would apply to those of us who manage and run this site.
I don't think so, Jim, and here's why: That legislation would apply if the site owner, or the site's hosting, is temporarily or permanently residing in the Philippines OR the site is registered in the Philippines. Also there would need to be a complaint filed by a victim who also must be resident at the time the "offence" was committed, also when filing the complaint and for any and all hearings. If none of these conditions are met, I can not see that a Philippine court could exercise any jurisdiction over this site. But if you want to adopt a "belt and braces" approach, remove the relevant sections and update the rules to include a ban on "dating site" type messages.
They watch the internet for such sites, with a bit of effort they can determine who run them, the issue is not so much prosecution but the possibility of being placed on a watch list, if detained on entry to the Philippines what are the odds of ever getting out. Long before Sean made me an admin of this site we talked regularly, I made this point to him back then but he chose to accept the risk, the official stance is that this is not a dating site, but we don't actively interfere where there are posts such as the opening post on this thread. The section (sub-forum) exists we're not about to remove it, I've been thinking about making a specific mention somewhere so I don't feel I have to keep repeating it.
I would also make the point that it worries me from a UK standpoint as well that people could be introduced and meet up as a result of using this site, we know nothing of the people behind the avatar and alias and there are bad actors everywhere on the internet these days, bad actors in the sense of dangerous people.
Well yes, but if you impose such a restriction, you'd may have to impose others in case they trigger anti-social behaviour. You'd be threatening freedom of speech which is actually quite common in other similar forum sites such as LivinginCebuForums (under its founding owner), PhilippineExpats and, of course, "that other place". That'd be a good way of getting me to stop visiting!
Yeah I know Malcolm but in his other thread it is different. I am not making a personal comment against him, I am just making a global observation. edit: actually I'm wrong the reply on the other thread is the same the lassie is physically located in the Phils at this moment in time.
My god I didn't think it would cause so much trouble, it was not intended too. It was just really wanting to chat in the hope of getting to know more, but surely you all start somewhere
Hi celtic341, A good idea would be to go on the dating sites. An even better one would be to get a return flight to the Philippines
What have you got to lose, celtic341? A three week holiday would really be very enjoyable over there. Two weeks is not enough IMO as it takes a couple of days to get over jet lag when you arrive in Asia. Many of us met our wives over there, and many met them on dating sites and then went to pursue their dreams ;-)
I went to the Philippines many times before I met my future wife. I didn't go to find a woman, I went there to scuba dive. If you go there with a good purpose, you will be very relaxed and you will see pretty, friendly ladies everywhere. The ladies are very chatty and they speak English. They can be very charming too and they are not ageist as they are in the West.
hi I think the difficulty here is that this is not a dating site, and the delay in your original post and the lady replying in post 2! I have sent you a pm that might help you on the path to finding a partner
