Well it looks like we're getting a new Ipad 32Gb with the fancy display from my company today as a pressie. I want to sell it on ebay due to being fairly anti-apple but the wife wants it. God knows why as we have 2 laptops sat at home doing next to naff all. Still I find myself looking at the apple site and wondering is a laptop with the new display really worth £1500!!!!!!!! Can I justify it for emails and downloading stuff?

My big problem with apple is the fact they seem way over priced and the last time I used them I hated itunes due to the fact it was really restrictive with what you can export.

But I like the idea of being able to allow different bits of kit to talk to each other etc. and the displays are amazing quality. I supose you can load different software than itunes for music etc.

Sounds good to me, if I were you I would keep it!

I have no Apple stuff myself, I have a Galaxy Tab which fits very nicely alongside my PC.

Besides, if it is a present from your company, and you sell it:
    - There might be a staff meeting at work
    - - and all your colleagues are taking notes on their IPad
    - - whilst you are taking notes on the back of a cig packet.

For me my Tablet and PC have different functions, and I need them both...

I bought an iPad3 3g in the sale recently when the iPad4 came out. I am well pleased with it.

However, you will no doubt get a good price on eBay for it, I am sure.

( I remember the oil industry incentive safety and performance bonuses. :like: )

I'm with you Stu, I'm not a great fan, the display is probably worth it if you are viewing photo's and enlarging or if you are trying to read eBooks however I have seen one and not been stunned by the extra resolution, now if I had that resolution on a 27 inch monitor or a 30 inch one then I probably would be really impressed.

Not sure if you can get away without using iTunes for sync and yes I hate iTunes on Windows too.

Good point about the sync issue, didn't think about that. From what I see an ipad on its own is next to useless as you can't plug anything into it. So how can you load a movie or look at pictures if you can't plug in a flash / external harddrive? I believe there are other programs you can use instead of itunes for music films etc but do you need itunes for syncing?

My mate has a apple desktop and it is impressive but the laptop are amazingly overpriced. The wife says she wants it so she can shop on amazon for book for her kindle. Now logic suggests to me that I sell the Ipad and kindle and buy a kindle fire HD.

You stream movies to the ipad. Hence no need to store it on your iPad. And with 4G it will be possible to stream movies to the iPad via a sim card.

I have an Apple desktop at work. Expensive yes. Our office is 100% Apple as the boss likes it that way.

Heres quite a good article on iPads and movies etc. I don't use my iPad for watching movies though I often use it for iPlayer etc.

Well problem solved. I've sold the ipad onboard for £300 (could get £400-450 on ebay but had hassle before selling stuff as some here will remember!) and when I get home I can buy 2 16Gb kindle fire HD's. Alot of stuff can be done on these (including facetime as well for talking to the wife) the same as the ipad. Obviously there are a few limitations but nothing that will affect the wife or me.

The main thing is I've remained apple free:vhappy:
