I was offered one when I last visited but I couldn't bring myself to eat them. My wife wont eat them either. There seemed to be plenty of takers in the video, though.

My Pinay friend loves them. She says they're really nice. I couldn't imagine eating one though. Aren't they a delicacy in Phil?

    From wikipedia....

"A balut or balot is a developing duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common food in countries in Southeast Asia, such as Laos, Cambodia (pong tia koon ពងទាកូន in Cambodian)and Vietnam . They are often served with beer."

So, more of a street food. Also purported to put lead in ones pencil...

My wife pointed out that they eat them with vinegar.

Yeah, I hear one can also eat them at different stages of development. Really funny that we eat the completely undeveloped foetus over here, and then the mature chicken, but not the bit in between.

Not tried it yet.. I might do one day, perhaps as a dare and film myself doing so.

I filmed my brother in law and his cousin when I was there last year eating Balut (my wife can be heard in the background).
