Hi folks does anybody know a good bank to approach? My asawa has her visa FLR visa for 2.5 years and can now work. She has found a job and needs a bank account for the wages...Tesco just turned her down. Does anybody know a bank that likes to say 'yes'

Agree with Keith. Open a joint account with your own current bank.

Or even try getting her to open a solo account with your bank. We were able to do that at Lloyds.

Barclays are the easiest to get for newcomers to the UK

    I believe that's correct.
Not so long ago they would accept any settlement route visa. It might be the case these days that any visa allowing right to work would need to be presented.
    Worth checking.

nPower would not change electric/gas account into joint names. No problem changing water bill into joint names and increase the direct debit at the same time, unless you shower together!

i'm with them, however we won't have much in our name beyond the basics as we're moving in with parents to start with. as for the specifics of what the above bank wants, they said that alongside the standard visa documents it had to be national insurance number to get a joint or solo account - they didn't seem interested in whether she had a job or not.

Surprises me a little that you had a problem Steve, NatWest were no problem for us for a change, the loved one opened an account without any bother after she obtained the first FLR after marriage.

The problem is flr and visa don't make any difference the criteria to open an account needs a bill in there name as a proof of address.....
