Or if you are lucky, you can submit your documents in the UK Embassy here in Manila. That is what we did. It's a step by step process - 1. CNI whether from the UK or Manila 2. Pre-Cana seminar 3. Apply for Marriage License 4. Find a judge to marry you That's is the simplest way but if you want to get married via the Church, it's a longer process. We did that and it was harder because it was an interfaith marriage.
If your girl is over a certain age ( i recall it is 25 but I cant remember for sure ) then there is no need for said seminar. In our case we were supposed to do it but we managed to avoid it and we saved time that way.
As far as I know the pre-cana seminar was required for all couples planning to marry. Not sure if it applies to Church marriages only. But when I was applying for our marriage license, I was asked for our certificate of family planning seminar (pre-cans) and we are over 25 already.
Cos it was 2 years ago I cannot remember exactly. I seem to recall a cutoff age, but my memory might be letting me down. I certainly recall it was a potential showstopper for us as getting a booking to suit my tight schedule was proving impossible.
In addition to your CNI with the Brit Embassy here are the requirements for the Marriage Licence you can probably ignor the Phils cni as you will be arriving with a brit one but you do need to make sure your lady has the required docs for her side if not that could be a longwinded bit We applied for our Marriage License on Wed In Talisay and it will be issued on the 31st We arrived at City Hall around 2pm and were eventually directed to an office on the third floor We showed the nice lady our papers which were 1. my full UK birth certificates 2. my passport 3. my C.N.I. from the Brit Consul here in Cebu 4. my cenomar from the N.S.O. 5. my decree asbsolute 6. our certificate of Marriage Seminar 7. her N.S.O. birth certificate 8. her Barangay clearance 9. her Cedula community tax certificate 10 her postal I.D. 11.her cenomar 12. her parents attended to sign the advise form for under 25,s 13. her parents I.D. All of these origionals then had to be photo copied 3 times and collated in 3 piles plus they wanted the stamped embassy copy of my C.N.I. http://www.british-filipino.com/showthread.php?2284-The-Marriage-Liscence&highlight=marriage+licence
Hello Steve in Basingstoke, Firstly, may I offer a belated welcome. Secondly, my apologies for 'jumping in' here, but I'm afraid you'd not be able to secure an apponiment at the British Embassy through official channels until at least mid-January 2014 You could try making contact with the Embassy and requesting an urgent and early appoinment based on the fact that you had no idea that the waiting period for appointments was so long....... It may or may not work...but worth an e-mail and couple of follow ups. Having said that, I believe you should only get married at the 'right' time for you both and for all the right and best reasons and not just to secure a Visa. Good luck in your planning Good luck
He might be lucky getting an appointment in the Manila embassy. When we went there to apply for my husband's CNI, there were only about 5 or less people there with appointments. The marriage license process is pretty easy but it will take about 2 weeks before it will be released. And please don't go through fixers! As soon as they see you are a foreigner, the prices will be jacked up. It's not hard to get one, really.
We used a "fixer" as it suited us. But this person was known to the family so we had no qualms about using her.
I think I said earlier, that we had limited time and were struggling to fit the seminar into the limited time so we needed help. That was the main reason as we were going to use my wifes Uncles friend who works in the government offices and she was going to set the wedding up for us for frree of charge, but couldnt get around the problem with the seminar, which blew our plans out of the water.
Shame, where did you apply for the certificate? I knew someone who submitted their application and had their seminar the same day and it worked out for them. Anyways, at least you got your license.
It was all down to timing. We just couldnt get a slot to suit or schedule. So we abandoned the Cavite route. We got married in Paranaque city, across from City Hall.
I also dont think "fixers" are normaly needed BUT making 100% sure that ALL the required docs for your missus to be (and perhaps her parents) is essential as trying to get something thats missing can blow it completly dont assume anything get scan copies of every thing on your brides side befor you go!!not every one has I.D. my father in law used a 5 year expired driving licence which was the subject of some debate plus the parents (under 25) need to be in the office
If you were teasing JohnAsh for being "low class" by association, can I tease you for being a cradle snatcher? LOL
LOL you tell me or else I would think you married a <25 year old girl and you're a 50 something old man.
"25 year old Girl" Try saying that to a British Woman lol the manager at my missus work is younger than that
