Very sorry to hear this Anthony, I can't imagine how it would feel to be the personal target of an armed robbery, hope she gets over the trauma of this event quickly.

Sorry to hear that, its always a trumatising time when something like this happens. Glad to hear she is on the mend though. Just hope that she'll not have any problems with the mental side of things as it would have been a traumatic experience for her.

This is a good lesson though, I shudder to think about the times I've been out and about in the Phils with stupid amounts of cash on me and in the wifes handbag. Guess we've been lucky so far, touch wood. Never really thought about the money we used to carry but I was always on a the wife about the jewelery she always wore. Wear shiney stuff and it draws attention doesn't it? Doesn't help that I'm 6ft 4ins as well mind but then again that might scare alot of them off!

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. Tony

Sorry to hear of this traumatic experience :erm:
Glad your wife's leg is better.

Regarding part of your quote above, can you explain, Tony?
    What is different than before?

Was she robbed in the daytime or when it went dark?

My wife and her family are very familiar with Cavite and Manila. It's where they have lived for so many years. My wife has always said that one needs to take care when out and about.

Her sister had her gold necklace wrenched from her kneck when waiting for a jeepney in Manila earlier this year.

Its never nice when these things happen but i wouldnt let it put me off from living out there as anyone could get robbed anywhere wether its by smackheads in liverpool or crackheads in new york imo its more of a factor of being in the wrong place at the wrong time vigilance is needed at all times

When these guys get nabbed at the police station and get interviewed by media they ALWAYS plead poverty which personally gets no pity from me.

Anyway it should be a general rule for people to keep things simple when in public. Always be vigilant and be aware of surroundings.

Plead poverty or not, cut the hands off that way it would be hard for them to do it again. taking from they're own people, I have no time for them.

Speaking of robbers, snatchers, thieves etc.
My most unforgetable experience was in year 2006, we just came out from Middle East my family and I went to Cebu.
We stayed in Green Plains Subdivision in Banilad. I was misinformed by one of our neighbor who is married to an American, she said that its alright to go to down to town wearing jewelries, she said Cebu is not like in Manila.
One day, we decided to go to SM mall via jeepneys as my husband is facinated with different design of jeepneys and being told it's safe there in Cebu we did not worry about it.
On our way, someone snatch one of my chain and I tried to get off the jeepney but some passengers told me not to, as its dangerous and they will rob me more if I go down there, they also told me that the police station was just round the corner.
We went to the police station and ask for an assistance. Policemen, at first are ignoring us and asked why am I wearing jewelries in that area? They sounds like its my fault and blame me for not knowing its not safe to wear jewelries in that area and kind of hessitant to assist me. So I was shocked with their attitude, I called my father and told him what just had happen and he asked me to find out what is the name of the officer in-charge and give him the phone so he could speak to him. The policeman asked me "and who is that? I replied "its my father!" he responded "why do I have to talk to your father?" Reluctantly, he answered the phone and my father introduced himself to him and after that conversation all I heard was "Yes Sir! Yes Sir! right away Sir!" then when he gave me back my phone, then he called his men saying "Let's go buddy! we have mission to do!" 5 policemen came with us and we went to the place where my chain was snatch. As we arrive the scene, the officer in-charge told a man, "someone just snatch Madame's chain an hour ago! Can you tell me who it is?" The man asked the police, "why Sir?" and the police officer talk to him, and the man said, "I will check it for you Boss!" Within 10 minutes, my chain is back in my hand! The officer ask if I want to file a complaint and we need to go back to the police station to make a statement. The man who gave my chain back, beg us not to. He also advised me not wear any jewelries whenever I go out. I said "what for? If you are going to give it back? I only need to look for you whenever they take something of me!" The people around us laugh. But having the thought of all hassle, my husband and I decided we are not going to file a complain and I told him to tell his people not do it again! The man said he will tell his men not to target a woman with a diamond nose pierce!
The officer told me "Mission accomplished Madame!" so we thanked them and hubby told me to give them some money for their assistance but the police officer refused to accept it! He told me to just give their names to my father, so I did. ;)
