Dealing with accountants that I know they don't see it as fraud or anything illegal they see it as cat and mouse with the tax man nothing more.

Also the system takes the worst extreme to justify taking from the honest and majority. E.g. the "builder" who charges for his sandwiches was a typical excuse. The JCB driver who only drove to work, fact is they are business expenses. They have slowly starved the economy in many ways. I used to get 40p a mile when working in the UK that then went to the first 10,000 miles. I did 10,000 miles in a month when working in Norfolk. That then dropped down to around 35p - 25p. By the third month it was down to 10p and not worth me traveling. A director for the same company traveled by train for our meetings as he couldn't claim for his travel by car but could by rail ticket. Brand new car sat in Coventry and meetings not going to happen further south because his transportation is miles away. This is the tax system at work.

I have found over the years more and more stripped away, e.g. I was using a van previously because it wasn't taxed as personal use. The odd thing with that is that someone on 24/7 callout's isn't "Personal use" but actually in literal full-time employment. I turned down a promotion as it involved being given a car and £3,000 off my tax allowance. Where is the sense in these things?

Fuels certainly gone up since I was last home. Although I am sure the power of the pen can work some magic but not sure how much.

I was accused of being a benefits cheat around 10 years ago. I was full time carer for my mother and claiming allowances to look after her as well as holding joint power of attorney with my sister over her affairs.

Anyway, the Council's investigation went nowhere as I could account for every penny. Even my sister backed me to the hilt and that was quite a compliment as we never see eye to eye.

As soon as mum died I stopped claiming benefits as I then had an inheritance and went on to become self-employed, following years of looking after mum.

I am back on benefits now as the company I worked with lost vital contracts and with little chance of finding work I opted for the Pension Credit route. I don't get the full Pension Credit as I have savings above the threshold level but it is enough to live on. But I don't think I will be taking any Philippine holidays!
