For how much I despise living in a Big Brother environment, I must admit that sometime, cameras are a deterrent for some troublemakers, and make life easier for law abiding citizens.
So I shut my mind to them, and go about my business as normal, unless it is a speedcam in a van, in which case I would gladly burn it and whoever is inside operating it, but only swear at it....

So the news that some security cameras in Birmingham , in prevalently muslims areas, are to be taken down after complaints, fills me with dread.
Are some people over reacting with a view to cause problems in future...???

Are they giving too much importance to a miinority which causes the vast majority of violent incidents just to be politically correct and avoid false accusations of racism ...??

Sorry, but I don't feel too comfortable with this ill-advised decision to cave in....

It says that the camera's had never actually been switched on, so maybe there'll be no change if the locals all knew that.

I can understand where you are coming from Dom, but having security cameras in the area is perhaps of little use fighting terrorism (and lets face it, that is what they were for). As the security services have the powers to snoop on the people they suspect of planning attacks, and thankfully they make themselves obvious for the most part!

If these cameras where never switched then there is little point having them there. Maybe they can be used elsewhere. Maybe they are dummy cameras. but as sorry as I am to say this it just looks like a council caving in to a minority and doing as its told so as not to upset anyone and be all pc about it. I don't think the cameras would have used in the "war on terror" as they'd be fairly overt in nature. You have to remember that the security forces are pretty james bond now in their methods of information retrieval and survallance. Local police would have just used them for standard observation stuff I'd have thought.

They would have switched them on, if someone had done the job properly in the first place.
all it needed was a period of discussion, and maybe some compromises, to pass it to the Muslim communities.
Now i feel like demanding that all the cameras in town should be offline as they do infringe my rights to privacy.
