Biometric Residence Permit

    Hi everyone,

I have arrived in the UK yesterday and I am finally with my husband.

Could you guys help me out on the process on getting the biometric residence permit?
We went to a post office today but I didn't have a document that I needed for it. The guy at the counter wasn't too helpful to explain us the needed document for it.

I don't remember having received a document for the BRP. I only know that I need to submit my fingerprints and photograph within my 10 days of arrival to UK.

If ever it is in the documents that the UKVI sent me with my visa. I think I left it in the Philippines. If so, can I just have it scanned and print it so I don't have to wait for it to be sent through courrier Mail?

Thank you so much in advance.

I was under the impression you received the required paperwork for the BRP with the visa, it will more likely than not be a document with a barcode or something similar that can be scanned by the Post Office.

Hopefully one of the other members can be more specific.

You married your chap in the Phils and came to the UK on a spouse visa right?

Yes. I read somewhere that the barcode document is part of the visa result? Which i think I left back in the philippines. Is there a way for me to get the same document at the UKVI website?

I would say that the document is personalised specifically for you.

If possible, confirm that the document is indeed in the Philippines and arrange for it to be sent to you in the UK via DHL, it will only take a few days so you will still have time to meet the 10 day deadline.

    Hi @OrB
Just spoke to my wife about it as she is still in the phills and looking through her docs.

She says she has a letter saying she needs her passport, vignette / visa document, and the letter she was reading detailing how to get the BRP.
    Have you got the letter?
Unfortunately some of our postal workers are not the brightest, please ask to see a manager.

What document did they ask for?

They were looking for a document with like a barcode in it for the biometric residence permit where I need to submit my fingerprints and photograph.

I'm so confused on what document it is.
Do I need to go to a website to get it or it is given when I got to the visa decision?

    Read the information below from the BRP guide;

"Your decision letter will tell you the date from which your biometric residence permit will be available for collection as well as the Post Office branch holding your biometric residence permit.
The date from which the biometric permit is available for collection is based upon the date you indicated as your intended travel date in your visa application.

So it looks like the information should be in your decision letter and they work out which PO for you to go to by the postcode of your UK address.

Hopefully @Andy_Joana can get clarification from his wife as she was just granted the spouse visa :)

@OrB when you applied for your visa was in in the phillipines?
Did you apply via VFS Philippines (Manila or Cebu)?
When in the VFS , did you give finger prints and photo then.
When you did your online application did you apply via the VISA4UK website?
If you did apply VISA4UK website you can log back on and check your BRP collection point.

"They were looking for a document with like a barcode in it for the biometric residence permit where I need to submit my fingerprints and photograph.".... this should have been done in the Philippines i think

When you applied for the visa in the Philippines you should have had your picture and fingerprints taken when you handed in your documentation. When my wife picked up her brp she had to take the passport and a letter that she received as part of the result which told her to pick the brp up at a certain post office before a certain date. There is no need to do fingerprints again.

Ok. I got it now. So I need the decision letter. Which I left in the Philippines.
But I'm so confused since they were looking for a document with a barcode.
They didn't bother to look for my passport.

My wife says no bar-code on any letters! only attached to her passport.
The only other thing I can suggest is report it, but try again first at the post office.

Again did you apply visa within or outside UK?

The vignette sticker is the entry clearance that is stuck in the passport that most people would think of as being a visa. The post office are looking for the reference number that is on your letter that told you where to pick up the brp. There is no barcode but there is a number on that letter which is why you're told to take it . you need your passport (which clearly contains the vignette otherwise you wouldn't be in the UK) and that letter.

They didnt accept my passport since they said they need the letter which I left at home. I'm looking into it if it's possible to have another copy of the decision letter

Call the PO you went to and ask them if a copy of the letter will suffice, otherwise get a family member in the Philippines to DHL the original over.

Got it guys. My bad. I thought I still need to submit a photograph and my finger prints. So they were looking for the appointment barcodes.

So when we went back today. I just had to present my passport and I have the residence permit now.

    Yea.

We're now sorting out some accounts to put in joint names so I get proof of address.

I also got into a recruitment agency today to get some work options.

It's a lot of work. But it's good that I'm all settled with the visa. All with the help of this forum.
