Yesterday, I drove to the wilds of the back of beyond of Welshpool, Powys, to see a very good (ex) client of mine, which incidentally hadn't bought a bean for a considerable amount of time. It was a lovely day, sunny, warm, and driving all the way there was actually rather pleasant, as the views were really something to treasure. The sat-nav, directs me to take a side road, which I never used before.......... I know for a fact, that ignoring some instructions from this sat-nav, however silly, means that I will find some extremely annoying hold up further ahead. Obediently veered left and started climbing a wooded hill, disturbing pheasants basking on the lane, the temptation to run a few over was great, but refrained from doing so, as the freezer at home is only small, but full of strange stuff. Anyway, I was about 30 minutes early for my appointment, so I decided to stop, by a clearing, to eat a packet of crisps (my lunch) and have a drink of water. About 30 metres away from where I was parked, there was a small stream, with a very small pond, and several moor hens going about their business. I was just thinking how lovely this all was, ans was reaching for my phone, so I could take a nice picture when all of sudden, there was a big puff of feathers all over the place and a huge red kite was taking off with a moor hen in his grasp. I sincerely wish I had been able to take a photo.
Not every day you will see that Dom, an experience I've been in Knighton, Powys all week, pleasant part of the country, not so good for getting a mobile signal though.
It really gave me a real sense of wildlife's daily fight for survival, and made me appreciate nature in a way I hadn't had a chance to experience before. I sat there gobsmacked for a while.....
Ive been to Powis castle today and seen lots of birds of prey. They were stuffed ones in display cabinets
