    As Aleppo is retaken by the Syrian/Russian forces it makes me wonder if this war could have been avoided or cut short if the UKs MPs had voted to take military action back in 2013. I remember being in the Philippines at the time MPs voted against intervening and saying to the wife that the UK would regret the decision, I know our good friend @Methersgate has touched on this subject in another thread.

    Hindsight of course is a wonderful thing alas, the west was too late and the Russians have now filled the vacuum in the Syrian conflict;

    I think it was the Iraq war which made the MPs take the decision they did, thank you Mr Blair.

    Damned if you do........... Damned if you don't...................

    Maybe non intervention was the wrong choice.........
    But, only maybe..........

    I think about Lybia......... And the super sized cock up it went on to grow to...
    If Assad, for all his faults, had been given some kind of support, as a recognised legal government, instead of being vilified and condemned in public, maybe some people would not have felt encouraged to fight. So many thousands of lives would not have been lost, ISIS would not have formed, refugees would not have had the need to move northwards.

    Who knows.....

    Damned if you do.........Damned if you don't, I think you're right Dom.

    In my lifetime I have only known some kind of conflict going on in the Middle East, people there must have spent their whole life knowing nothing else, tragic the more you think about it.

    We got the Middle East wrong from the start.

    We should have kept control of the countries and the oilfields, let the people stay there enjoying their 7th century Islamic belief system, and refused ALL of them entry to the UK.

    They are the cause of conflict, civil unrest in and a threat to, all progressive GENUINE peace-loving societies. A blight on us all for generations to come.

    Consider this every time you roll up at the airport security scanner.

    Well Graham, I really cannot see an end to the conflicts in the Middle East and associated terrorist activities in the West, it seems we are just trying our best to contain it with no real solutions in the pipeline at all.

    You have to ask yourself the question, "where will it all end"?

    Sadly, I fear that as with infinity, it won't. :(

    Damage-limitation will be the best we can hope to achieve... or all start attending our nearest mosque... after first having decided which side you want to be on of course... Shia or Sunni. :rolleyes:
