Hello there, I wonder if anyone of you knows if a British children living outside UK can come back to UK for university without having trouble getting a student loan. We have lived in UK for 3 years and now moved to Middle East again as hubby works outside UK. ;) We don't have property in UK as yet but we intend to get within a year or two to establish a based here in UK :like: but is it really necessary to be based here in UK for the children to have the right for students loan later on? Please let me know how can we do this as I don't want to live away from my family! :frust: Husband intend to send me back there and work when I can also work here in Middle East, he is worried that if we are not based in UK the children might lose the right to study in the University and treated as international student and pay for the University fees without the help from student loan. I would really appreciate your response to this. :dream: Thanks a lot in advance! :brit:

    Hi mystica,
    Sorry I don't know.
You could try to contact a University to ask about this.

    Mystica see this Directgov page

Looks like the kids need to be resident and settled in the UK.

As far as I know, if you have a EU passport or have been living in the UK for over 3 years you are legitimate to apply for a student loan. But I wouldn't bet my Rolex Milgauss watch on it. The rules change every few years and as the study fees increased in the UK this year it could have changed.
