I was born to a British father and Filipino mother. They got married on April 1996 and I was born on December 1996. When I was about 1 year old, they lost contact for my father went back to United Kingdom. I have never been to U.K. and have spent my entire life here in the Philippines. I carry my father's last name.

Am I eligible for a British citizenship?

Can any of you here advise me on this matter. It would really help me.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome :welcome:. Im not qualified to answer your questtion but we do have members who have experience of such matters. Im sure Ive read on the forum in the past about a rule change in the early 2000’s regards childrens citizenship. Is your fathers name on your birth certificate?

    Thanks for your response.

Yes. His name is on my birth certificate.
On my birth certificate, also states that I am Filipino-British.

I'm hoping of going to UK that is why I'm looking for answers. I don't know where to begin.

You are in the same situation as I was/am.

Yes, you are eligible for a British citizenship.

You will be considered British by descent.

I am now in the UK by the way.

It will be a very long process for you though and better save some money. Any questions that you have, just ask.

    Good luck!

    Wow! Thanks a lot.

I actually have a lot of questions which I'll try to break down into parts. What can be my first step towards getting a british citizenship?

First step is to get the original/certified copy of your parent's marriage certificate and your birth certificate and have it countersigned by a barrister/lawyer/notary public.

Second step is to find out is whether you have been registered in the Consulate and whether you had a UK children's passport (I had both).

Third step is to get copies of your licenses, IDs, diplomas, etc. Any identification and certificates you have with you. (They are very strict in the Philippines)

After this, just go and apply online for your UK adult passport.

Now they'll review your case and will probably ask you to provide additional documents. Be prepared to also have a DNA test with your mum and a face-to-face interview at the UK Consulate in Taguig.

Be prepared for a very long process. It took me about 7 months to get my UK passport.

    Good luck!
