    Hi,

Can anyone tell me when the British Citizenship paperwork needs to be in for the October deadline?
I have been working so many long hours that it has slipped my mind.
Chel has her ILR and our two kids have British passports.

I went to see a friend tonight who is married to a Thai lady and he said I need to get the citizenship asap to protect the wife and kids if I pop off.
It was a massive wake-up call and I hope we can get the citizenship before the deadline so Chel doesn't have to do the English tests.

    Cheers.

Are you referring to the language test deadline? Change of rules. If so I believe it is Oct 28th

My wife will have to retake the English Language Test, for citizenship, as her certificate expired.

    NOTE :

"For an application for citizenship to be considered under the pre 28 October requirements, the application will need to be received by UK Visas & Immigration by Friday 25 October 2013 (the last working day before the change). We do not receive a postal delivery on Saturday or Sunday."

No, John. I just want to know when the cut-off date is to apply for my wife's British Citizenship so she doesn't have to do anything else like extra language tests etc.
From your link (thanks) it looks like they need the application by Oct 25th.

B1 is a lot higher than A1, but should be a doddle for anyone who has been here 3 years. My missus got more than that in her English tesats before she'd even moved here.

I agree. My wife got over a B1 at her TOEIC tests in Manila before she applied for her spouse visa. So she sure should beat the pants off that after 3 years here.

Does my wife have to renounce her Filipino citizenship before she applies for UK Naturalization?

Her Filipino passport is still valid but will expire in November.
If we send this off this week with form AN (to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen), will it cause a problem? We don't need to travel this year.

    To quote Mr Micawber:

"Don't forget that once you take the Oath for UK Naturalisation you do technically lose Philippine citizenship and will need to think about taking another oath to re-acquire it. "

NO! it will be automatically cancelled and she has to re-affirm her Filipino citizenship, if she wishes to have dual nationality.
I have called the Philippine Embassy about this because I want to travel using my Philippine passport, but apparently I was told that the day I took my oath, it becomes invalid, therefore I lose the right to use it.

NO! it shouldn't be a problem, my passport is also about to expire when I applied for my Citizenship and they still aprove it!

Apparently, if she used her passport to get the indefinite leave to remain they would have her passport on their records.

I used our Principal at International School of London as my first referee then my second referee, she is a coordinator who is our friend and my husband's colleague, we know them both for more than 5 years.
