    British friend and his Filipino wife having lived in Spain since they married in UK 8 years ago.

    Because of a change in their business they want to relocate to uk.

    I’d be grateful if someone would post the requirements

    Many thanks John

    Thanks @bigmac

    One thing I'm not clear on is:

    If I migrate when the threshold is £29,000 do I still get stung with having to meet the next increase to £34,500 and then the following one to £38,700 (early 2025) ?

    Or once I migrate at £29,000 am I locked into that for the next 2 1/2 or 5 years or what exactly ?

    Just reading down the link seems to say that the initial threshold is used throughout to the indefinite leave to remain... so if you meet the £18,600 that's your threshold for each subsequent application and assume that will be the same for the £29,000.... that'll be my threshold to meet for subsequent visa applications.

    Back in 2012 they operated a transitional scheme that once you were on the visa journey you were able to adhere to the requirements at the start of the journey irrespective of any subsequent changes that would take place in the future prior to the ending of the journey this remains the same currently ie #2900 etc etc

    This link will help you

    Yes us too John, we plan to stay here in UAE for a few more years. If i can’t find a job at that threshold when going back then hopefully we can get it through savings track. I’m pretty confident I can get 38k plus though - fingers crossed. Let’s hope that’s the last

    I should really pull my finger out if we can get in on £29k it'll take the pressure off... especially with the robots coming.

    As far as I know, there was a cut off date for entry which expired at the end of the Brexit transition period. Melody (my wife) was admitted to the UK under the Surinder Singh exception. I don't think that option still exists.

    It might be worth checking with an immigration lawyer there in Spain. They would probably know all the up-to-date information.

    The one thing in your favour is that you were married in the UK. I would definitely investigate any increased rights you may have as a consequence.

    BTW, an income of £40k is not difficult nowadays, and probably not quite as out of reach as you might imagine. Minimum wage would earn you almost £30k working wiping up dribble in a care home (which is what many Filipinos end up doing)

    The following link might be of interest to your wife if she is considering working as a carer, It appears that she would be able to apply on her own, without you needing to prove your earnings. Worth investigating further

    Watch this space - If Labour win the general election I don't see them putting this up to 38k. Fingers crossed the keep it the same or reduce

    £30k wiping up dribble ? Working 60 hours a week maybe. The reality is thats 3 peoples job--most wont work more than 20 hours a week or risk losing their benefits.

    And you should know Malcolm as your missus is a manager, my wife works in a nursing home "wiping bums" as we call it and she would love to earn almost 30K per annum, the reality is it's well short of 30k per annum.
    @CatchFriday should know the ins and outs of doing this, as I recall he (his wife) just made the transition date post Brexit, they are now back living in Spain, Larry (@CatchFriday) is a very helpful guy and I am sure he will know the in's and out's of relocating to the Uk.

    bigmac is right, you need to go back to school @CampelloChris

    Minimum Wage in UK from 1 April 2024 = £11.44 ph => 11.44 x 40 x 52 = £23,795.20

    Or almost £24k.... in most peoples eyes.

    So... £38,700 - £23,795.20 = £14,904.80 => 14,904.80/(11.44 x 52) = 25.02 hours/week extra to get to the threshold of £38,700

    So in all, you'll be wiping bums for approx. 65 hours a week in order to earn the £38,700... quite a lot of dribble :D

    For a kickoff John, I didn't say it would reach £38.7k. I said £30k.

    Melody works on a 48 hour a week contract as a carer (HCA). She is paid £12hour

    48 x 12 x 52 = £29952

    Please excuse the missing £48.

    I used being employed as a carer as an example of today's pay scales. Having been in Spain for eight years, it's possible that our protagonist is out of touch with how much people are paid nowadays in England.

    I'm a taxi driver. My wages, although self-employed usually reach £900 to £1000 a week after the motoring expenses are taken care of. And I'm a lowly taxi driver. No qualifications. No degree etc etc.

    I'm not suggesting @johncar54 becomes a taxi driver or a carer. I'm just putting them forward as examples of how much he could earn, and why the £38.7k salary requirement isn't such a daunting figure as he might have imagined.

    My wife has never claimed a penny in benefit, and works 48 hours a week. Be careful who gets splashed when you paint with such a broad brush.
