Hi all, I was hoping someone could advise me on how we get a British passport for my son. He was recently born in the Philippines (British Father) with the intention on both mother and child moving to the uk eventually. Looking through the gov.uk website i found it quite confusing and some of it seemed a bit contradicting. I am named on the hospital birth certificate, and my partner will be looking to get a working visa. Do i need to register him in the uk first or can I apply for a passport directly with his birth certificate? thanks
Yes, so my partner previously worked in the uk for the NHS as a nurse and has kept her pin so we are hoping she will be able to come back over to the uk this way again.

Hospital birth cert is only a 'temporary' one. You will need a proper government-issued PSA one...with you also named on it. (No DNA testing required for a British 'Child Born Overseas' application...whereas Americans DO need one, in case one of them (Americans who post on similar forums) tries to confuse the issue). . You do NOT need to register your child's birth with the British Embassy in Manila (expensive anyway). Applying for and procuring the passport achieves the same thing....British Citizenship. Yes, I have been through the procedure, in 2017. I applied for the passport while in the Philippines, and had it delivered there also. its occurred to me this could be a way round the tough new settlement rules: future partner / intended spouse gets sponsored for a work visa--NHS or care home. Its a low cost visa--and usually for 3 years--i think. After the 3 years--ask sponsor to renew. After 5 years altogether--the visa holder can apply for ILR--job done. Couple can now marry without the huge fees involved--and the new earnings requirement. Or simply live together if preferred. Only drawback is if the applicant has kids already--might not be able to bring them till ILR gained. Have i missed something ( again )?
Thanks for your help, so once I get his official birth certificate from the PSA I can use that to apply for the British passport and he is good to come over indefinitely?
