    Funny but not funny.

Six men armed with axes have carried out a "smash-and-grab" raid at London's Selfridges department store.

Police said the robbers, reportedly dressed in burkas, smashed glass cabinets to steal high value watches.

Two suspects were later arrested after they came off a moped and members of the public stopped them fleeing until officers arrived.

The store in Oxford Street tweeted no-one was hurt in Tuesday's robbery.

Police said the men fled the shop on mopeds and motorbikes, ridden by associates. The value of the stolen watches has yet to be established.

Matthew Carrozo said he heard a moped crashing just under a mile away from Selfridges and saw one man dressed in full motorcycle gear while a second man dressed in a burka fell on to the ground.

Apparently an Egyptian chap was the hero in their capture.

If you think about it,the Burka is a perfect disguise.

And a bit cheeky under current climate.

On a different note, I watched some women going through security at Manchester airport a year or so ago and they wouldn't remove the burka for their photgraph and were allowed to be photographed as is. :D

Absolute madness. How can the UK immigration service and customs ever do their jobs correctly with this kind of pandering?
    Its beyond joking about IMO.

I remember an item on BBC radio 4 about the wearing of veils and burq'as - one gem was a jeweler's shop, in a northern city, owned by a Moslem family, which did not permit the wearing of burq'as and veils. They had beeen robbed once too often!

"Witnesses said it appeared the men had disguised themselves as rich Arab women, with some carrying designer handbags. They mingled with hundreds of shoppers before producing axes and smashing their way into display cabinets, stuffing dozens of watches worth tens of thousands of pounds into bags. They fled and jumped on to at least three waiting motorcycles.

Anuj Dabeesingh, 22, a student from Uxbridge, who was shopping in the menswear section on the first floor, said: “I saw four men completely in burkas, posing as women carrying women’s handbags.
