My sis-in-law just recently got her Family Visitor Visa. Now I want to get some flights organised. Does anyone know if I book the tickets from UK with credit card, do I also have to provide sis with photocopy of my card and my passport data page? I always thought that was the case, but someone told me last night there's no need. Now I'm just insecure. Tried to google but as is often the case loads of conflicting ideas. Anyone know for sure? Or is it better to send money to Phils and have sis purchase tickets herself over there? All ideas welcome.
Depends on the airline but the answer would usually be yes. I know some airlines will not allow it at all, Korean Air were very strict about that and gave us trouble when I had to send Ana to Korea, I was doing that on an award ticket and they claimed at NAIA that she could not fly on a ticket bought abroad, we had to refer them to Flying Blue head office to get her on the flight. So sometimes even if it is allowed you still have to convince the girl at the desk who may not be all that clued up in the first place. Both sides of the card and your passport, makes me nervous the thought off all that data being out there if they can work out the address as well then you have "Card not present" sales capability.

oss, I have a preference for Cathay Pacific and have already 'selected' some good flights/connections/transit times/arrival times etc. We just want everything to go as smooth and trouble free as possible. This is a very important visit for us for some special reasons. Maybe I had better give a call to them ? OMG never thought it would be so tricky. Everwhere you look it's a different answer.
If I were you I would contact the Philippine office of Cathay Pacific as they will better understand the local requirements, couldn't find anything on Cathay's site in regards to buying tickets for other people. Out of curiosity I tried checking prices for a return Manila to Heathrow, it came in at 928 dollars which I thought looked great but it turned out to exclude tax I then tried Manila to Manchester and it went up to 4600 dollars Cebu to London prices were better and it's good to know that they are on a par with KLM, I might try them sometime.
Thanks oss, I did check the CP prices and same as you saw $928 and was so happy, then continued and saw the tax to be added. I'm not that bothered about getting the absolute cheapest flight. I'm more interested to get good flights with scheduled timings and transits times that suit. The CP flights I selected are just great. Additionally I need to be sure that changes are cheap and easy and that no restrictions on min or max stay. I asked sis to go to the CP agent office in Davao to discuss my suggested flights and payment methods. I will report back here whatever information I get. Don't know when that will be, sis is not very organised. (maybe I understated that slightly) ha ha Thanks for the info oss
Yeah the fully flexible tickets are generally much more expensive. On KLM now a fully flexible ticket is over 1300 quid now , I used to be able to get business class for that price occasionally I remember in those days that a fully flexible economy ticket was available for just 700 or 800 quid and even the less flexible tickets still gave you 100% miles, that's how I managed to get 450,000 KLM air miles at one point.
