I will only go there once it goes back to proper normal or the Hotel quarantine thing is abolished or reduced to a few nights ..
Me too, I'm not doing the quarantine thing. The 30 day visa waiver has not been reinstated yet. This is the actual resolution and details IATF Resolution No. 157.docx (doh.gov.ph) Nothing much has changed we still need a full visa.
That won't happen it will be open long before then, with Omicron I am willing to put my vaccinations to the test but only in order to get to the Philippines, I will protect myself to the utmost every minute of every day prior to going to that airport and getting on a flight, that's my only goal in life right now the chance to spend one more bit of time with my family.
I feel your passion brother - who you got over there ? Genuine relationships and family always stand the test of time - I’ve realised one thing in life - make the most of things when you get a chance - x
the last time my wife went back..2019--the fare was a bit over £400 i think... are those days gone for good ?
Never say never, but personally I think it is going to take the airlines a decade to recover and during that decade there are going to be more and more energy shocks like the current gas price shock which is going to double or triple your electric bill this year, so yeah I think those days are gone, I think fares will hover around those examples I posted above for quite a long time.
i was with utility point for energy--one of the first to go bust. Then i was made an EDF customer..which hiked my bill by about a third--so far. In spite of using gas for central heating , hot water, hob cooking and my 100% efficient flueless gas fire...i still spend more a year on electric.
Looks like I won't be going to Philippines in February like I hoped. Will have to postpone my sabbatical from work. Hopefully April Will be good?
The trouble is that to book a flight at a reasonable price and by reasonable I mean around £1500 you need about 2 months advance warning, so to my mind we need an announcement before the end of February that foreigners are once again allowed into the country under the old visa waiver rules either that or attempt to get a visa from the London embassy. This was my original thinking when I posted my initial reply to this thread. edit: Actually I mean my second post on this thread when I was musing on when it would reopen.
Glad I retired and moved to the Philippines in 2017, 3 or more years in the UK would have left me stranded and gutted. Silver lining and all that.
Nice one I met a lovely chap outside the Philippines embassy in London 5 months ago - Who lives in Boracay who was fighting to get back - Hope he made it. what’s your 3 biggest pros and cons since you went there ? And wot part r u in ? could I live on £800 a month all in there ?
1. pro, weather. 2 pro, Filipinos great, friendly people. 3 pro, Cheaper to live here than UK. 1,Cons, driving especially at night. 2,cons, Noise can get on my nerves. 3, cons, dogs in packs snapping at my heels as I walk past. I live on my basic state pension, but i have my own house rather wife owns it lol So, 800 quid should be okay, rents cheap too.
brilliant Jim - thanks - I’ve escaped a few dogs in my time - I once ran 6-7 miles from Real to Infanta and I don’t know how I avoided getting snapped lol
