Something to aspire to, for me anyway.

Yeah, awesome video. Not tried much video with my camera, though I doubt it will be as good as that.

Wonder what lens was being used?

I have two from that list :)

I would not buy the 85mm f1.2, they probably meant the f1.2 as the other one, the 85mm f1.8 is not in the same class of glass, although it is damn close.

The 85mm f1.2 is huge, heavy with very slow focusing, I tried one in Manila one time when Canon had a stall in Mall of Asia but it was not for me, incredible lens, but the 85 f1.8 is almost as fast, much faster focusing, relatively light and much much cheaper, a really nice lens :) The 85 f1.2 is really a studio lens.

If I ever get the money the one I would go for from that list is the 35mm f1.4 I missed a chance of picking one up about 5 years ago when they were only 550 quid second hand, well over 800 now usually because of the collapse in our currency of the last few years.

The Tilt Shift lenses are very interesting if you are doing any kind of Architectural work but at two grand for the 17 TS-E it is out of most peoples league :)

A good video find Mike, personally though, I will never do videos, just not my thing. I will use video features to record family and so on but not to tell a story, it's a different mind and skill set altogether.

I think this Filipino film maker is wonderful :like:
He is the same man responsible for the video at the start of this thread.
He seems to have an eye for capturing emotional moments.
The combination of an obviously emotional couple paired with an excellent choice of music makes for a very interesting video.

It seems that some Filipino men go for the western style of wedding attire whereas a lot of western men get married in a barong (traditional Filipino shirt). I enjoyed wearing the barong on the day.

Most people get nervous at their wedding.
I must hold my hands up and say that I had a piece of paper on the table with my crib notes of what I was going to have to say.
I did this because I didn't want to screw up saying my lines in front of my wife's family and everyone else.

It has always seemed much easier in the UK for the bride and groom to say their sentences because they just have to repeat what the person in front of them says.
In the Philippines you have to remember what you have to say, there isn't the "repeat after me" way of doing things.
I was a chicken, but a crafty one :vhappy:
The video saw me looking down but not what I was looking at :D

There is also a difference getting married in the Philippines in that you will probably be on your todd, whereas in the UK there is the best man to reassure you and you will probably have had a mouthful of muscle relaxant before.

Sean, make sure you wear two or three pairs of underpants in case of loss of composure :vhappy:

Funny you should say that... I would buy the 85mm f1.2. In fact, I did :) I have a fair bit of Canon glass, but the 85mm is just wow. I love it. I can't deny your comments. It's big, it's heavy and it's slow focusing. But for video that's not so important because all DSLR video work is done in manual focus anyway. The one criticism I would have of the f1.2 is that it's focus by wire, and the focus ring turns ad-infinitum. This isn't a problem in run and gun situations for video, but I have a follow-focus which makes it a bit tricky. I use a 5D MKII, 450D, 40D and a Lumix GX1 and at the last count 7 GoPros (1 HD Hero, 4 HD Hero IIs and 2 HD Hero III Blacks).

My glass list is as follows:

24mm f1.4 L
85mm f1.2 L
24 - 70mm f2.8 L
70 - 200mm f2.8 L IS
28 - 300 f3.5 - 5.6 L IS
Sigma 50mm f1.4 EX DG
Sigma 12 - 24mm f4.5 - 5.6 EX DG
Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f1.4 (Leica M mount)
Panasonic 20mm f1.7 M4/3
Panasonic 45 - 200mm f4 - 5.6 M4/3

Now I see it in front of me it's a scary list of equipment, and that's pretty much only the half of it! I have several flashes and modifiers for strobism, PocketWizard Non TTL and TTL triggers... studio lighting, video tripod with pro fluid head, regular photo tripod and monopod... this list goes on and on and on  It has been my one prevailing hobby over the last 5-10 years!

All that expensive gear though is no substitute for talent, haha, and I'm working on that :) I did manage to snap this of my beautiful mahal a couple of weeks ago... this is Lumix GX1 with the Voigtlander lens, all manual (aperture and focus) and available light. I saw the shot and just took it, it's completely candid.

I've only been doing video for a couple of years or so, but here's one of my faves so far... I follow around a Falken Tyres sponsored professional drift team (UK champions in 2011).

This was my first ever video project... also turned out pretty well I think.

I'm certain my mahal would not fully approve of this post... not because there's a photo of her in it, we all know how much Filipinas love the camera, but she would think it was boastful and in bad taste I'm sure :)

Hi Mark,

My Filipina wife is similar in her outlook to your mahal.....

Great to have another camera-bod on here.
I try to take photos as often as possible, and although I can see the many negatives I have, I can see the occasional photo that makes me feel proud.
I have: Canon 7D & Canon 450D | 50mm 1.8 II | Canon 24-105L | Canon EF-S 18-55 IS | Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 OS | Manfrotto 055XPROB & 804RC2 | SpeedLite 430EX II & 2 x YN560 II
I would love the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM. The examples I have seen are amazing.

Your Team Falken vid was great.
You must be mad putting your camera so close to those drifters :vhappy:
What was the music BTW?

It will be good to chat about photo things with you here.
There are a few of us who are keen.

This site is useful...

The cameras on the cars are GoPros. In some respects they are sacrificial. But they're also very sturdy. I've had one fly off and bounce across the track, and also one get completely buried in gravel thanks to a big off while attached very low on a front bumper. Both survived and provided some interesting footage of each incident :) This is the mount location... you can see how vulnerable a cam here might be:

Music on the Falken vid was In The House - In a Heartbeat by John Murphy from the 28 Days Later movie soundtrack.

I must admit... I'm in two minds over what to do with my SLR stuff, I'm hoping my mahal will also enjoy being my muse as my heart is in portraiture. I just love taking shots of people (hence the lovely 85mm f1.2).

You are Buang (Baliw) in your choice of camera locations - only joking :), but you get great action from them :)

Great track :)

I have tried to take good shots of my wife but she just creases up when I tell her not to keep smiling :erm:

What are your options, you're not thinking of selling up are you?
