Hello BF friends! Hope everyone is well.

Finally got a job as customer consultant here in Gloucester. As some of you have known, I am a registered nurse back in the Philippines with about 3 years of hospital experience ( Children's ICU). Unfortunately, my qualifications are not accepted here until I register in the Nurses and Midwifery Council (NMC) and have an IELTS score of 7.0 in all categories. It's such a pain I only got 6.5 in my writing test and I have to take the test again to get the required score. So I have to take 3 exams before I can practice my profession in the UK.

After months of thinking about it, I decided to have a career shift. Am just glad I got some experience in customer service as well and easily found a job in just a month of looking for one. Now I have 3 interviews to do in the next couple of days. :)

Turning my back on my profession makes me think, I won't be working night shifts, less stress, more time with my husband and no exposure to diseases for the lil one inside me. Yes folks, just found out today that there's a bun in the oven:D Will be going to the doctors soon.

    Hope all goes well.

Thank you for the well wishes everyone. I just found out that the ultrasound here is not until the 12th week and antenatal check-ups are usually done with a midwife and not an OB-Gyne (obstetrician-gynaecologist). My first check-up was with a GP because I didn't know that we have to fill out a form and wait for the midwife to contact us. I was also given a 'Mum kit' with loads of stuff about pregnancy. There's nothing like this back at home. If there is, you have to pay for it :p

Bounty Pack? You will probably get several over the course of the pregnancy. Bounty will also be around the ward on the morning of the birth asking if you would like some photo's of the new born :) That's chargeable though :D

Depends on quantity, I think 2 photos was around £17, we got the £50 pack as I recall but they do more expensive ones. Obviously if its too much there's no problem in a polite refusal.

Anne, please excuse my saying this, but I am simply staggered. Many Filipinos and Filipinas are less than fluent in written English, tending to write phonetically or to write "textese", but you write rather better than the average native.

(It is fair to say that plenty of natives fail the higher levels of the IELTS)

    How ridiculous!

Nothing wrong will making enquires shengsei1990, nursing is a well paid profession here in the UK and people have a lot of respect for nurses.

Even if you have to pay for further training to get you up to speed I think the investment would be well worth while in the long run. I'm sure Anne will be able to help you on the requirements.

    Go for it :)
