Has anyone here as a non-catholic had their child christened in a catholic church. I'm bemused by the fact of the parents need to be clpractising Catholics in order to have a Catholic baptism. I had this idea that the church, whichever denomination, had open doors for everybody. My wife's father is very religious and is surprised by these requirements here in the UK as he has never heard of this in PI. Oh the god parents need to be practising Catholics too and they need to sign and submit a form saying so.

Sounds a lot of bother you're going through just for that but I can well believe it as my brother married a left legger and he had to jump through a couple of hoops before marrying her here in the UK. I can understand your missus wanting a Catholic christening though as that's their thing over in the Philippines as you know.

In our original visa application my closing words in my letter was that I want our children should we be so blessed, to adopt and understand their mothers culture language and religion. I understand the religious ethics involved and if it makes her happy it makes me happy. I just naively thought the church would be more welcoming. Maybe its just me as I have little experience in religion. CofE demands little in regards to devotion.

No chance of a Christening in the Philippines whilst on a family holiday?

I am Catholic but not practising, kids were christened in the Phils no requirements for me to sign anything but it was quite an important document to obtain, the schools need it later on.

Surprised that the church in UK has such strict requirements, particularly given the low numbers now attending the church.

Yea it is something we've discussed but the FLR was on the agenda for 2015 rather than an unplanned trip. We will keep our options open on it though

My thoughts too. The church we've attended did seem to have healthy numbers but I was surprised at the amount of minority races attending.
