Hello everyone. Me and my filipino wife got married in the Philippines on Feb 2020 and our daughter was born in the Philippines in Dec 2020. I plan to apply for a visa in about 8 months once I meet the financial requirements. My question is from what I understand my child is automatically a British Citizen due to me being British so I dont have to include her in the visa financial requirements?
Has anyone else gone through this and can confirm please. Do I need to get my child her British passport before I make the visa application?

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi
You need to look British citizenship by descent.
As far as I can see you will need to apply for your child.
Im sure other members will be able to guide you.
    Good luck!

    I got this from gov.uk

You were born after 31 December 1982 and before 1 July 2006
You’re automatically a British citizen if, when you were born, either:

    • your mother was a British citizen or settled in the UK
    • your father was a British citizen or settled in the UK and was married to your mother

The child is British by Descent you should apply either for Right of Abode or you should try to go for a full passport at this time.

Be warned that child passport applications have been taking 10 months and more from the Philippines.

Having the child's birth registered overseas can help but is not essential.

Getting Right of Abode should probably mean that you don't need to include her in the financial requirements but that is a subtle point and I am not entirely sure about it.

I have two children born 2012 and 2014... they both have British Passports (and Filipino Passports), which coincidentally I am just renewing.

They don't need a VISA so it's just the £18,600 - I think you can apply for Travel Papers from the embassy to avoid the need to get a passport for the baby - which I know can take a very long time.

It took a while for me to realize the children of my children will not automatically be entitled to British citizenship unless they are born in UK - not quite sure how that works out in practice if they happen to be working abroad etc later :D
