I can't quite understand about the interviews for a first child passport . The HMPO interviews the British father only if he's in UK ? I expected them to interview the mother and child in Manila.
Do you get a choice of UK interview locations?
What sort of questions do they ask?
Is it only for married parents ?

Surely if you are in the UK you can just apply for a child passport from the UK in the normal way using your own UK sddress.

No, if your child is born overseas, s/he must apply as an overseas application with rules specific to the country of birth.
I wondered that too, I asked HMPO.

I am applying for a first child UK passport, my girlfriend has no Filipino IDs to submit and it takes over 1 month to get other ids like postal ID, national ID etc.
Do you think a police clearance (not NBI) will be acceptable to UK passport office?

Answering myself, the police clearance can be obtained immediately and is cheap. It also has a photo on it with name and address. It is a "photo Id from government" which is one of the requirements from UK HMPO.

I don't think the police clearance is considered a legal document for identification even if it has a photo on it. It should be any of the following: passport, SSS ID, GSIS ID, Driving license, Pag-ibig ID, TIN, Philhealth, Postal ID, Voter's ID, PRC ID, OFW ID. These are the only ones considered as valid IDs in the Phils... unless someone here has used the poloce clearance as a form of ID and applied for a visa?

If your girl friend has no ID then would start the process of getting them as soon as possible as it is an absolute pain starting from scratch. Try and get her a passport as soon as possible although need official ID for that. Can be done with old school ID and NSO birth certificate.

NBI is also relatively quick to get and think it carrys slighly more weight.

Would also check as soon as possible, if you have not done so already, that her birth was registered and that she has a NSO birth certificate and that it matches details on your daughters birth certificate.

Don't assume anything was done correctly in philippines as lots of people with no birth certificate who then have major problems getting ID or basic stuff like getting bank accounts.

Yes I agree about mistakes, on her birth certificate, she is officially a "male".

But my local English council also recently gave me a birth certificate with "birth reporting date" 1 month before my birth.

I am talking about Filipino IDs for a UK baby passport, they accept a wide range of IDs such as Filipino bank statements, hospital bills, baby ultrasounds, school letters and "tax papers". It takes so long to get NBI clearance, national ID etc. There is a time on the UK passport application and it takes 1 month to examine the form initially.

It's the mother who must officially apply for a UK passport for your Filipino based child. There is supposed to be a countersignee, but s/he is supposed to be British "professional" person who has known her a minimum of 2 years.
But how on earth do you find someone like that for a Filipina who has never been to UK and doesn't know any other British person apart from you, especially professional for over 2 years?

Not true unless the rules have changed, I personally applied for my daughter's UK passport in Manila at the British Embassy in 2008, you can't apply at the Embassy any more but I do not believe that it is only the mother can apply.

Regards a reference I used a British friend who is my daughter's Ninong, although he only saw my daughter at her christening.

I was thinking about what you wrote and in our case, we are unmarried, that must be why the mother only can sign the application. If the child has married parents, either can apply for the passport and I suppose that makes it much easier.

I presume her ninong had the appropriate job requirement? We just don't know anyone who fits the bill.

Seem to be a lot of suppositions going on here.

I recommend you contact the Passport Office (best done by email) and ASK them.

Rules are constantly being updated and changed, and there is SOME flexibility in the system.

My old boss here in the UK countersigned my Philippines born and resident son's passport photo, back in 2016.

I completed all the forms while in the UK. My wife had no 'input'... other than receiving the passport at our address in the Phils.

Unmarried parents' situation, I wouldn't know about.

Nope I'm not married to my daughter's mother.

Col is an accountant, now retired.
