Could anyone advise me how I can save the conversations that my intended and I have as evidence of the relationship please?
Is there an easier way than just copying and pasting?
Any help would be much appreciated. Regards John

I seem to remember copying and pasting seven years worth of MSN Messenger then just copying and pasting excerpts onto a word document for printing.

You don't need to submit all, just bits and bats covering your time together.

    No naughty bits mind :)

    Hi timmers.
Many thanks. I just thought there may be a facility on Skype to do it, but I have looked to no avail. The 'naughty bits' are always done on the mobile! ;)

It is a pain John I know, maybe one of the other members knows of an easier alternative, having said that how many people need to copy and print their chat history out?

When you do paste the chat history into Word you can of course make the text smaller so you get more conversation per page so to speak.

At least you only have to do it once, not needed for further leave to remain applications once the loved one is in the UK.

What's difficult about copy and pasting? It's the easiest option.

You don't need to paste it all. Just selections.

We used the most recent 6 months and the first month.

I will need to write an app for this but in the meantime you can try the following.

Skype stores its messages in a SqlLite database, these days it stores more or less the last 6 months worth.

    the database is in your

    %appdata%\Skype\<your skype name>\main.db

Where <your skype name> is a sub folder in the Skype folder you should be able to find it fairly easily

You need to download and install from http://sqlitebrowser.org/

    the 32 bit windows .exe

Install that then open the main.db from the location I mention above.

On the execute sql tab type in

select datetime(timestamp, 'unixepoch', 'localtime'), author, body_xml from Messages

as shown below and press the play button

that will output all of your Skype history in a readable format in natural message sequence.

you can export this to a file TXT or CSV using the button at the right of this screenshot that I have highlighted in yellow

As I said I should really write a program for this as it is not that hard to do.

If I write a little application that will be the easiest option :D

another member on here kindly posted a link to a method of easily back tracking all of our 60,000 facebook conversations over the last 2 years. i was easily able to print off one page for each month as a sample. thats 24 pages.

these pages are cut up and used as bog roll at the embassy as a cost cutting measure.

john jones, I wrote a little windows application last night that will do this job for you.

Download the zip file attached to this post, unzip it to any folder and run the SkypeMessageExporter.exe program, the app leads you through what you need to do to get the data exported.

This app only does messages although I could list calls etc. as well and it exports your entire history of Skype not just messages between you and your partner but ALL messages, I might provide a filter for it tonight.

This should work on Windows XP but you will need to have at least version 4 of the .Net framework installed.

Anyone else that wants this you are free to download it and try it out, please report any problems back to me, most likely problem will you not having the .net framework installed.

It might also blow up if Skype is not installed. :)

P.S. been meaning to write this for ages, just archived all my Skype for the last 2 years :)
