    Hi everyone

Does anyone know the present cost of a FLR(m) visa, and medical surcharge. My partner is here on a Fiance visa (6 months), we got married a few weeks ago and I am applying for the next visa - the FLR(m) and have to pay the medical surcharge. Am going through the online system, and it took £500 for the medical surcharge, and on the next screen wanted £2000 for the premium service. Does this sound right? I was advised the medical surcharge costs £400 and the Premium booking costs £1000...

£1000 sounds about right for the FLR fee including the same day premium service--at the office you choose. the NHS is £500 on top.

    Should be £649.00 for the visa + premium service £400.00 + NHS £500.00 = £1549.00

I thought that when you applied for the premium service you also paid for the NHS surcharge at the same time online.

You need to go through the process again if you have not already paid, 2k is too much.

We had a case here on the forum a short while back where a young lady paid for the NHS surcharge then decided afterwards that she wanted to go for the premium service, on applying for the premium service she was asked again to pay the surcharge.

The NHS surcharge needs to be paid for at the same time as you apply for the premium service to avoid mix ups.

Steve, Bigmac, thank you for your advice. I paid the £500 and quit the wizard when it said my fee was £2k!! Am going to re login, and try again. Hopefully the system will recognize I have already paid the medical surcharge, and this time round display a fee of £1049 for the FLR(m) . At the risk of sounding naive, but do 'I' complete the wizard and name Jasmin as my wife? Or, should it be Jasmin alone that creates an account and completes the wizard?

good question...How long would a postal application take? My asawa's visa expires in Feb. Would be good to save £400...but a postal app sounds potentially frustrating

Better to get it done and dusted in the same day, the postal application can take up to three months last time I looked.

but--if you dont need her out working--why spend it ? why should flr take 3 months--which is a formality--wheres the fiance visas are coming through in half that time

I don't need Jasmin to work, well not at the moment. But, 3 months could potentially take us past the 6 month limit for the fiance visa (Feb). To be honest, at least a postal application would mean not having to use the hideous online system? I have just tried again...this time it wanted £200 for the medical surcharge... Frustration and exasperation is not the word! It sees the new application as 'new' so the money (£500 med surcharge) paid on the erroneous application is not counted...and you cannot go back through the wizard on the erroneous application as the system does not allow!

The FLR postal application could only take a few weeks but you always have to work on the basis of it taking three months as per the FLR guidance notes.

It is good just to get it out of the way, but like you said, £400 could possibly be better spent, its down to personal preference as you know.

i just regard these UKVI fees as an an absolute rip off. but--then again --someone has to fund the cost of all the immigrants --legal or otherwise--that are flooding in free of fees.

Its "Hobson's Choice" for us when it comes down to paying the inflated visa fees.

Guys if you have a six month visa to get married is it not true that once further leave is applied for its irrelevant when the first visa runs out?

That is correct Keith, as long as you marry and apply for the FLR(M) before the six month Fiancée visa runs out it doesn't matter how long it takes for the UKVI to process the FLR, so applying by post for example doesn't become a time sensitive issue.
