Air Asia booking page here - prices vary (a lot!) but I have flown HK /Clark and back for under US$100... http://booking.airasia.com/
I had thought about the Hong Kong route as the good carriers tend to have a bit lower prices round about Christmas but I was worried about baggage allowances going that route, I have trimmed my hand luggage to 7kg this time by not carrying my extrmely heavy professional DSLR camera's. Just had a look at that route and the first available flight HKG-CRK is 20th December nothing at all before that in December Checked their baggage policy and it looks like I could manage with that.
Yep already lost the budget deals on the day I wanted to fly and even the Regular economy is too expensive now on the dates I want.
I was looking to book a flight for 15th Jan with PAL. The price shown was £1,006. Cathay via HKG price £639.75 . Cant believe PAL are so far above existing airlines. I booked the Cathay flight, the 1.5 hours in HKG airport is worth the £366.25 saving. Such a shame that PAL are so uncompetitive.
Hi Nimbus Long time member first time poster please keep posting you are very welcome here! Good point you have made, they will struggle with prices like that, however the software that controls airline prices tends to adjust things in strange ways and over time you might find PAL more competitive in a month or two's time.
If this is for a flight originating in the UK, then don't forget PAL has to include around £150 UK "Green" travel tax but I agree, PAL is not at all competitive with its fares. I suspect that there will be some drastic adjustments made should the first few flights make a loss. Either that or PAL will switch to a more profitable destination such as Amsterdam or Frankfurt.
I think if the award ticket that I want is still available on Monday I think I am just going to burn my miles, looks like you cannot get any good flights at all on Flying Blue now, so no point in trying to save my miles like I used to, I think it is time to burn and then look at other carrier loyalty programmes. The award tickets that I can get are clearly mostly being operated by China Southern but I should get Flying Blue terms on luggage and cabin baggage, outgoing it's KLM to Beijing but China Southern from then on and most of the way back, 315 quid total, would leave me with 33,000 miles but I could let them go, the problem with loyalty programmes is that they do really tie you in if you have credit with them. Right now using my miles I can get the flight for 315 quid, if I try to save the miles I will probably lose them or have them devalued even more, right now I have to fly KLM before July or I lose my miles and that might not happen so definitely time to burn.
I hate those non-recliners on CP. The seat part just slides forward but the back doesn't recline, really uncomfortable
Cathay are upgrading their cabins and replacing these seats. I also do not like them. Nice idea not having the chair in front reclining in your face but far harder to sleep.
Not sure whats going on with Philippine Airlines the cost of flight over internet was £575 but when you phone them to book it its gone up to £828, looks if I am going to Dubai again...!
I've had worse than that. I clicked on the payment button on a webpage only to be told the flight doesn't exist! I input the same dates and destination, clicked on the search button only to find the seat had shot up £270. So in the time of searching, selecting and inputting my details the price went up. They must've been updating the prices on the back-end whilst i was doing my details, great!
I just tried a couple of random dates and got £590 return. I went all through bar the booking and it seems ok. It never went up. Try booking online. It might be ok.
Having all day yesterday on the internet trying hard to find direct flight out on the days or near the days that I wanted, almost pulling my hair out (what I have left)I gave up and book a flight into Brunei Airport I was happy to find that there was only 1 1/2 hour stop there and then onto Manila, looking forward to seeing all of the family again.
