    Hi Guys,

Joy is waiting on a DBS check so she can start work in a care home, we have been waiting for about 3 weeks now.

Does anyone know the timescales for these things?

In particular how long for people from overseas?

My wife's friend's husband needs a police check for a visa to Indonesia and enquired just a matter of days ago. He has been told it will take about 5 or 6 weeks.

In my last job, 3 years ago, our department was continually hiring throughout the year(s) and in all cases we had to wait for the new recruit's police check results which also took about 6 weeks (varied a little), before they set foot through the company door.

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing ( they were known as CRB checks and were in Scotland ).

Later....CRB is what they were called until they became known as DBS checks. So the same thing.

DBS checks used to be called CRB checks until ACPO discovered it could make money by issuing Police CRB check certificates. DBS checks involve a lot more actual checking and that's what's required to work in care homes etc. The Police CRB Check Certificate is required for visas for certain countries including the Philippines.
