Seen this place on that TV doc "Worlds Toughest Place to be a Bus Driver", and was shocked to see it for the few seconds they pictured all of these women sharing beds, but now the Daily Mail has gotten a peice about it in this shocker of a story:erm:

Not sure about you guys, but I really would worry if Joy had to give birth at this place:erm:

This is the reality of public hospitals in the Phils, this is a poor people's hospital so I am not surprised at the overcrowding.

Three years ago Ana's niece Carlotta gave birth to her daughter Charlotte about a week or two before Janna was born, she was in the bottom level private hospital where the fee's are not too bad, however she nearly died due to internal bleeding after she delivered the baby, I had to help out that time I think it was 20,000 peso to get her the care she needed, needless to say she can't have any more kids now.

Last year Ana's nephew's wife was in the same private hospital for their first baby and this time I got to go along, the care was quite good and each mother had her own cubicle and bed, it had some privacy, at the time Ronald's mother had not been able to get cash to him to help with the hospital fees so he had to borrow 5000 from me, but he's a good lad and I was fine with that, his family have always paid back anything I lent them.

A very proud young new dad :) (that's Ana on the left)

I remember when we were bringing Janna back home in the taxi from the hospital in Mandaluyong the driver asked me how much it cost for the birth, I told him something in excess of 60,000 peso maybe 70,000 peso, he just about had a heart attack, told me that his wife had just given birth and it cost him 1100 peso in public hospital :)

To answer your question, no I wouldn't want my partner to go through that but if I had no choice I would be grateful that a service I could afford existed at all.

It does seem to be a shocking story. But take another look at the photographs. Look at the detail of floors, beds, bed linen etc. Everything looks clean. The sheets still have creases from ironing. Despite the overcrowding, look into the faces of the people.

It was a good message from oss.
Of course we would not want our partners to experience that, for all sorts of reasons in our own minds, But look, it's hospital treatment in a clean, safe and secure environment that is available.

Actually I have experienced a number of public hospitals in Phils, my lasting memories are of care and concern.

The private hospitals in Phils do vary quite a lot. Most of them are better than or equal to the UK NHS hospitals.

I have also experience of how my parents have been treated in the local NHS general hospital. My memories are not as good.
I have experienced how the hospital staff and hospital managers handled the final hours of my mum. Would want that for anyone.

Sorry, don't mean to be dismissive on the original story. It's still a shocking story.
I just wanted to share that I have personally experienced even more shocking stories here in UK.
