Hi Everyone, Can anyone tell me can my fiancé apply for a provisional driving licence sit theory test and have driving lessons ? She is in the uk on a 6 months fiancé visa, I know she can.t work or study, but what about when we are married ? , Kind regards Dondee
See the link below to apply for a driving licence, not certain if she can apply for a licence whilst on a Fiancée visa though as she will not be a resident until she gets her BRP when you apply for the first FLR(M). Should tell you in the link whether or not she can apply for a licence now. She can work once you have obtained the FLR(M), see the link below on getting a NI number; https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number
On reading the notes regarding the DL it looks like your good lady will have to wait until she secures the first FLR(M) before applying for a licence, you have to be resident in the UK.
I got that bill plant offer and now doing my lessons with them. By the way, she can get an international license which is valid for a year..but judging from my experience with my driving here, it is way too different and so glad to book th lessons.
If you hold a Philippine Drivers License you don't need an international license, the Philippine one is valid for six months (I believe) and is also accepted by hire car companies.
I wonder if the person who made the rule that Filipinos could drive here in the UK on their Philippines driving licence for 12 months had ever been to the Philippines
A little information below relating to Filipinos driving in the UK; http://www.filcombristol.co.uk/drivingnews.html
In order to apply for a UK Driving Licence the issued visa must be for more than 185 days; a Fiance Visa does not qualify. A Spouse Visa would qualify of course and my wife will apply for her Driving Licence on the day she receives her National Insurance Number. The wording of the 185 day requirement is very very poor and even most of the DVLA call centre staff interpret the requirement as having to be resident in the UK for 185 days before a Driving Licence application can be made. Indeed, I spoke to a former solicitor yesterday who waited 185 days before applying for a licence for his wife because of that DVLA-issued wording. But I search of What Do They Know FOI requests shows that that you only need a visa that is longer than 185 days to get a driving licence... https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/driving_licences_for_foreign_spo
My wife got a provisional license with no problem since she is on a 30 month spouse visa. We just used her passport and brp. As others have noted I don't think short term 6 month visa qualifies.
Yes. We filled in the online form to get the paper drivers license application form sent to us. We then sent the form off with the BRP and the passport to DVLA. No NI number is actually required - it's just used for the online application process to make it simpler online.
