Hi all, My child is British, born in the UK (British father) and I wanted to register his birth in the Philippine Embassy in London and at the same time apply for him to get a Philippine passport. I am a Filipino. Will that automatically make him a dual citizen? Or do I have to apply for him to get his dual citizen in a different way? I'm a little bit confused, I don't want to complicate things. Thank you for the help in advance
I don't know. My younger son is in the same situation. His older brother was born in Manila and carried a Philippines passport but when he tried to get a new one he found that the Embassy were not helpful at all. The lady he saw would not speak to him in English and spoke only to his mother in Tagalog, telling her that he needed an NSO Birth Certificate.
Perhaps look at this ? http://www.immigration.gov.ph/servi...nd-aquisition/recognition-as-filipino-citizen I went through this process with my older son (now 22) when he was around 2 years of age, also British-born of a Filipina mother. He now has a certificate showing that he is officially 'recognised' as a Filipino citizen. Though he hasn't done so yet, he can use this certificate to procure a Filipino passport, and thus dual citizenship.
Thank you both for your reply. My son is now 18 months old, I know that I have to pay £20 for a late registration of birth. I called Philippine Embassy in London just today and they told me that by me registering birth and getting passport for my British son and I am still a Filipino will automatically make him a dual citizen without needing of anything else.
