My lot in Talisay, Cebu, have been flattened... gratefully they are ok.
It will be a quiet Christmas this year.
Cannot remit anything at the moment because of huge total area brownout. Hullier site seems to be down.

Doubt it Larry, have you seen the state of Surigao airport?, the only chance she will be able to get there is by Sea thats if there are any Ferries left in a sailable state, and i doubt anyone will be making longish journies by road due to floods etc etc. I have posted the link below showing the devastation to the Terminal building at the Airport.

I have heard from my wife, there is no water being sold on the streets of Cebu. You can only get water in hotels. She is travelling by ferry from 7pm Ph time from Cebu to Surigao - she said this is my country, and we are used to disasters.

Since the Philippines has waves of Super typhoons, how long until the power goes on in Surigao? And Comms come back?

Erm no there is nothing natural or wave like with these super typhoons, these have only really been this bad for the last ten or twelve years, so there is no 'oh everything will be fine two days from now' expectation, there is very little history.

Restoring power grids requires highly skilled linesmen engineers working everywhere all at once, during the great storm of 1987 in the UK we (the SSEB) sent our highly skilled Scottish linesmen down to England to help (the CEGB) restore the grid in England that feat was achieved in very short order I don't remember the exact time it took but I do remember that our guys made a huge difference in restoring the English grid and you were back up pretty quickly almost everywhere but then again that was in the era where power interruptions were almost completely unheard of.

The Phils people will do their job with the resources they have and it will take as long as it takes, how long is a piece of string, for some people it is going to be tough.

And also remember all of the communications infrastructure is built on top of the power grid only bits of that will come back before the grid is fully restored.

My girlfriend went to the province to her parents house before cebu city got hit.

House had most of the roof torn off and a lot of destroyed trees.

My friend in Cebu city had been evacuated to a local school, her boarding house was flattened and lost everything there.

Cell service was working in the province but no power and no idea when it will be back on and not heard from my girlfriend since friday as her battery died so won't here from her till its back on.

My friend in Cebu city reckons the power there might not be fully back till the 25th I sent her some money but nowhere open yet to cash it.

The wife’s brother and family live in Cebu, none of the family have heard anything from them since the typhoon hit. His house is/was only made of timber and they live on the mountainside on the outskirts of Cebu.
