    Good afternoon all,

I will shortly moving to Bournemouth from Surrey and was wondering if there was a large Filipino community in the area. As my fiancé will be joining me soon, it would be a little comfort to her knowing that she could have some familiarity around, while setting in.

Hello Gaz, I know there are many Filipinos down the road in Southampton, don't know about Bournemouth, Lots of students I seem to remember.

Filipinos make friends very easily so I wouldn't worry too much about it, she will have you after all :)

I'm sure someone else here will give you further information.

Thanks for the offer Timmers :)

Actually I'll be heading out to the Philippines in January, as we have the 28th booked for our wedding. We've been together for over 2 and a half years, so it's about time we made it official.

I did start a thread a while back about having enough savings, as I don't quite earn the amount needed of £18,600 (can't remember the exact amount) for her to gain entry. I've now managed to gain £24k in savings which I've had for about a month so hopefully that will help

Sounds great, remember that only amounts of cash savings above 16k can be used to help meet the requirement if you don't qualify with your salary. In addition the savings need to have been held in your account for at least six months prior to your application.

Regarding getting married in the Philippines, the paperwork changed a few months back, if you are not aware then search the forum as someone posted a thread giving details of the new requirement.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah that does. I downloaded the recent documents and papers that I need, so I will have all of them ready.

I currently earn just over £16k, so the savings will be needed. It's great to having this site which has helped a great deal :)

I think you'll have a great time getting married in the Philippines, I got married only last week here in the UK, wouldn't have minded getting married in the Phils myself as at least the wife's family could have attended.

Good to see you are abreast of the new rules, its not easy for us Filipino lovers to keep up with the visa changes and the like both in the Philippines and the UK.

Good luck with the wedding and enjoy :)

Ohh that's lovely news - Congratulations.

It's the reason we have decided to get married over there. I wanted her to be surrounded by all her family and friends which couldn't have all made it over here. I'm not one for fuss, so I'm happy to just have my parents come over with me.

I'll post another thread once the day is over :)

    Cheers

    a salary of £16k--with 6 months payslips as proof--will need savings of £18,600-£16,000--= £2,600 x 2.5 (=£6,500 ) + £16,000 threshold--disregarded-------so total savings of £22,500.----with 6 months bank statements to prove.

if you dont meet these requirements--a visa application will fail--and youve lost your money. i hope i'm not the bearer of bad news.

my partner--currently back in the filis----was a student in bournemouth--up to 2 & 1/2 years ago. there were a lot of filipinas there at that time.

Hi Bigmac - I'm glad you showed me the calculations, as I was struggling to figure out exactly what I needed. I currently have £24k which has been in my account for just over a month. So, in April (roughly) she'll be able to apply

thats good--you qualify on that score. please note--the money has to be legally obtained and not a loan-----and held in an account to which you have unrestricted access. in my case--i needed twice that amount---so i sold my house last year--banked the equity and have rented a place since then. its best if you have paperwork to prove how you came by the money.

It was a gift from my parents by the way of shares. It was just transferred from her bank account to mine. Would that be a problem or look suspicious?
