Now I doubt I will get much of a debate on this subject on here (surely you all agree)..

But it seems the BBC have sent a reporter deep into the Philippines to look at beauty pageants and how the Philippines pretty much owns them all at the moment.

What took them so long?

Have you seen the scary ones in the states where they parade their 4 year old kids? They dress them up like cheap 1980's prostitutes in "talent contests". Made feel a bit disgusted to be honest.

Regards the other thing I'm not sure I personally think just about every country on the planet has very pretty women. I normally don't find the ones in Miss world etc that nice to be honest.

Filipinas are really beautiful! :) everytime I go out I always notice how beatiful filipinas are. There is something unique about the beauty of the filipinas. Is it the smile? The warmth? The simplicity? I dont even know exactly but there is 'something ' that makes a filipina beautiful inside-out. :)

Indeed they are; I spent some time on the Fly River which forms the border for some of its length!

Please accept my apologies for Fred Drift - I am to blame for us finding ourselves in New Guinea. Wonderful place in many ways, but not known for winning beauty pageants.

The Philippines does seem to have become very good at winning international beauty pageants.

I think there are several reasons for this - first, of course, the Philippines is a nation that does indeed produce some of the world's most beautiful women, but beyond that there are more factors...

Many nations have "given up on" beauty pageants on the grounds that they are not very Politically Correct - women in many countries disapprove of beauty pageants because they are "demeaning to women". Not so the Philippines, or indeed other nations in east Asia - beauty pageants are very popular in China, for example.

The judges of domestic beauty pageants in the Philippines used to select a winner who was either the daughter of someone important, or who looked "very mestiza", because the Philippines' ideal of beauty involves a long nose and pale skin, as you may see by looking at just about any advertising hoarding in the Philippines. Recently the judges and organisers of pageants have noticed that foreigners prefer girls who look more "Filipina" and they have started to select select girls who are just beautiful, regardless of the size of their nose or their skin colour, though long legs certainly help and mestizas tend to have those.

At the same time, the American "busty long legged blonde" "type" is no longer an automatic winner.

Last, and much the most important, Filipinas who enter these events train for them - very hard, for months. They are just more professional at looking natural!
