    Hello everyone,

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you very much for all the extremely helpful information and to the admin and ALL the contributors who keeps this website running, mabuhay po kayo!! (long live you all).

Though it was tedious and involved tons of paperwork, it's all worth it. I am looking forward to queue in 'UK passport' lane and avoid the loooooong 'non UK lane' :) and to be able to just go back and forth without any restrictions plus the visa-free places!!! Wow!

I do have one more question kabayans, what's next in the process?

Now I have 2 passports, do I have to register my British one to the Philippine embassy?

I absolutely want to retain my Filipino citizenship, and I read on one of the blogs about dual citizenship that for as long as the current PHL passport is unexpired, you will still be treated as a full Filipino citizen. I wonder if this is really true?

    Thank you po

Congratulations. My wife has dual nationality and far as I know she never registered her British passport to the Philippine Gov in fact it's her second British passport had to renew her BP over here in Philippines on line. But someone will chime in and give you more accurate information.
Wife's Philippine passport expired years ago, she can't be bothered renewing it.
    BTW,
If you are exiting from the Philippines use your Filipino passport and entering the UK use your British passport.

    Hi Maria Clara,
    Enjoy having dual citizenship!
My wife has a British passport but she hasn't renewed her Filipino passport yet!

Hi, what is the reason to exit on your Phil passport? What if you entered on uk. I’m just asking as my wife always has to pay some Overseas Foreign Work tax at the airport when she leaves.

As a duel national if holding the passport for the country you are visiting in this case the Philippines you enjoy the benefits of being a Philippines citizen and can stay in the country as long as you want for example. Healthcare is at hand for a Philippines citizen etc. if you entered on the UK passport you are limited unless you obtain other visa extensions to 30 day stay. You would leave on the Philippines passport to show correct length of stay under their jurisdiction.
You then enter the UK using your UK passport for all the same reasons.

That would probably be the travel tax. Certain exemptions and showing both passports is as I understand it the primary way of avoiding. Other exemptions should be covered under the residence abroad rule and brp should provide that evidence. Seem to remember when wife exited on spouse visa that needed the brp to avoid it.

If you have both passports that means you are dual citizens. If leaving on a British passport means you will be treated as a brit. and may have to pay exit clearance and over stay penalties.
It really depends if you have stayed in the Phils longer than six months.
It happened to my wife, she then used her Filipino passport to exit.

So basically it's better to bring both passports when traveling to the PH.

For example: If travelling back to PH, I'm leaving the UK with UK passport and when landed in PH, I enter on PH passport? And vice versa?

Many thanks again for all your help in here.

RE: Now I have 2 passports, do I have to register my British one to the Philippine embassy?

Yes, as technically your British citizenship now invalidates your Filipino citizenship.
You are essentially no longer a Filipino citizen.

You need to go to the Embassy and re-swear allegiance to the Philippines
... and they are likely to take your "old" Filipino passport off you & stamp holes in it

After the re-swearing, you then (I think ?) need a new Filipino passport

There's a whole thread in here somewhere about it ...... my wife did it about 6yrs ago, so memory might be a bit hazy now

Aposhark ...... old Robert Zimmerman didn't actually specify
Lots of questions like "Can you tell me who to contact here", and "Will there be any comfort there"
    .... but no real answer.

The story of his life ?

I remember him mentioning that he didn't want to work on Maggie's farm no more, but can't believe he suggested an alternative employment or answer to that either.

I like RZ (BD) but I realised a long time ago that his lyrics (poetry) has lots of rhetorical questions in them.
I had a drinking buddy in the states who was obsessed with him. I like him but I'm nowhere near the level of admiration that he had when he was alive.
In fact, as the years go by I mostly try to steer clear of music with lyrics and prefer drone music which requires less attention to details and more appreciation for sonic noises and progressions.
RZ (BD) does have his moments for me though, when I'm in that mood.
I like "Blood On The Tracks" a lot and "Street Legal" is also a very fine album.
His lyrics can stop us in our tracks sometimes, hopefully with no blood.
New Pony: "You know she got such a sweet disposition.
I never know what the poor girl’s gonna do to me next" :)

    Congrats on your citizenship!

As bluebird said, once you get British Citizenship, you lose you Filipino nationality.

My wife did this a few years ago and had to go through the process to re-aquire her Filipino citizenship and pledge an oath at the embassy. She then also got a new passport, much to her annoyance as her old Filipino passport still had a couple of years on it!

Got to be honest, how would the Philippines authority know she got her British passport and invalidated her Filipino nationality?

We (maybe me more) decided it was easier to go through the whole process and not risk things in future.

    See section 2 of this linkhttp://legacy.senate.gov.ph/republic_acts/ra 9225.pdf
Clearly states you do not lose your Philippines nationality.
Hence why your current Philippines passport is valid, even if the Philippines government isn’t clever enough to action the invalidation of current passport on obtaining foreign citizenship pretty sure if the Philippines passport was invalid UKGOV on approval of BC would advise to return Philippines passport as invalid but it doesn’t it merely endorses and so recognises that the new British passport holder holds another(Philippines) passport
at the point of your current Philippines passport about to expire you would take the oath and RETAIN your nationality, new passport.
For those whose Philippines passport has expired take the oath and re-acquire your Philippines nationality new passport.
The process is called Retention and Re-acquiring
    Retention keeping

My wife has British and Filipino nationality. I don't recall the wife having to reinstate her Filipino nationality, in fact she renewed her Fil Passport in London while over there in London.

Who can apply section says it all Retention (keep) if you lose it you havent retained it therefore you re-acquire it.

When my wife got her BC Blue UK passport it was endorsed with the comment "holder of another passport" when her current Philippines passport is due to expire she will seek to retain her citizenship by swearing the oath and the rest of the process etc.
